The Ship sequel underway News

PC News by Robert Purchese

3 September, 2007

Outerlight has confirmed that it's busy working on a sequel to The Ship.

The news is slopping around the decks of the official website, under the "What's next for Outerlight?" section. But unfortunately no gameplay details or platforms were mentioned, just orders to keep an eye out for more information.

The Ship was released last year on Steam. It's a multiplayer action game that challenges you to assassinate specific targets on board a luxury 1930s ocean liner before they can get you. A bit like Titanic, but with less romance and more murder.

You have to use objects at hand to achieve your goal, and keep your intentions to yourself, otherwise the guards will pop you in gaol.

Pop over to our The Ship review to find out more.

Discussed at length a month ago in Consolevania's fluff piece, but whatever.

Let's hope they stop people from turning each game into one big deathmatch.

Let's hope they get some bot-free servers sustained! This was one of the best pieces of game design last year in my opinion, but it fell short of its massive potential simply because not enough people were online with it!

And according to a recent episode of Consolevania (allegedly, I haven't seen it), it's also coming to the Xbox 360.

Yeah, it was suggested it would be, sometime after the PC release. I hope she was telling the truth cause I'd love to get hold of this game. The original Consolevania review of the first game made it sound like so much fun.

Really enjoyed the first one. It was a nice break from the usual deathmatch type antics.

What the sequels needs for me is more interaction. If I'm not stalking or hiding let me chat to other people, sit with them, go for a swim etc.

@sickpuppysoftware: I know what you mean. What I think would be interesting was a game that was slightly less "arcadey" - where you could "get in character" a bit more, peruse the ship a bit less frantically, make a real agatha christie novel out of everything...

The problem is it only takes one dickhead running around axeing everyone to ruin things completely even in the current game, and that idea would make things ever more susceptable. What we need is a way to stop wankers playing...
