Whoa. This looks... wow, great. Like Harry Potter on heroin. I'm very intrigued...

On the other hand: I had high hopes for Matrx online, which theoretically could have been great - but we all know how that turned out.

This stuff looks very mature, tho. Dark, and I even spotted a tit, and an undead bear. That won't fly in the US... so I'm expecting a seriously toned-down version of this vision to come to life.

Wonder what real-world cities we'll have for launch? I'm betting Oslo will be among them, which is very cool, as that is where I live :)

Which pretty much automatically means a much bigger world to explore, for example - and cities full of real people instead of robotic NPCs.

I never quite understand why so many people are immediately put off by a the idea of MMO games - is it just the fees? Lack of a flatrate at home? Afraid of socialising? Serious question, btw., you're obviously entitled to your opinion. :)

Good point. I was just going to say how much it reminded me of Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines

Why, oh why must it be massively online...

To answer UncleLou, a combination of these elements: monthly fee, the loss of the hero/saviour feeling (try convincing yourself that you actually have an impact on the gameworld when there's thousands running around just like you), the frequent breaches in immersion due to some people's less than stalwart dedication to role-playing.

For me, RPGs are about immersion, which MMORPGs almost always lack.

Also, I'm a student, so I cannot be expected to pay for a game indefinitely.

(all of this is my opinion.)

Arguably the same could be why people are drawn to mmo's.

I’m always in awe of people in highest tier armour, or unique pets/mounts aspiring me to do the same. And I’m pretty sure that the NPC wench in the "Generic Tavern" of Single-player RPGX doesn't care if I’m level 1 or level 80.

Immersion is equally breeched in single-player mmo's either by the same responses from NPCs or broken path finding. Give me the emergent experience that only being around other players can provide.

It’s gotten to the point that when I play a single player RPG I always think, "what’s the point?"

In answer to UncleLou’s question, I think the real reason people are put off by MMO’s is the misconception that they are boring and filled with grind, when in reality that is no longer the truth.

In regards to The Secret World, as soon as i heard Ragnar Tørnquist was behind it my interest in it went through the roof. if anyone will provide a compelling and interesting storylines for an MMO, and finally shake of that misconception - he can! :)

    i have hopes for this

the thought of a full fantasy story inside a modern world seems unreal

fighting undead at night on the streets of new york, IF done properly could be unreal

MMO after MMO after MMO after MMO...

I love WoW, but I hate what it has done to the game industry. -.-

    What a superb game.

So looking forward to it. I'm a massive fan of the as yet unreleased The Secret World. I think it has loads of potential and already the released info about it is just awesome. I like it so much that I have just opened Cabal Hub.

Players of TSW choose 1 of 3 factions, Dragon, Templar or Illuminati. The groups associated with the factions are called cabals. So in the limitations of my wisdom I founded a place where all players and all cabal leaders can coincide. The reason I did this was because the official forums does not provide this and it is like looking through a plate of spaghetti for strand of wool to find the right cabal.

    Cabal Hub this way:-
