The Path dev dates next game

Based on Oscar Wilde's Salome.

The Path developer Tale of Tales plans to release its next game Fatale on 5th October.

Based around Oscar Wilde's Salome, the story follows the eponymous biblical princess who demanded the head of John the Baptist as a reward for dancing for King Herod.

Silent Hill artist Takayashi Sato has designed the character Salome, who is supposed to challenge us and confuse us, according to the developer.

Tale of Tales describes Fatale as "an interactive vignette in real-time 3D". The style will be "more naturalistic" than usual, but with an air of magic open to interpretation by the player, or perhaps more accurately, the observer.

Sounds weird, but then so was The Path. Kieron Gillen walked that road for us, so head over to his review of The Path to find out more.

There are more pictures and excerpts of inspiring creative pieces over on the Fatale website.

As long as they learned from the stupid mistakes in The Path (no running near ususable objects, etc), I'll give it a try. The Path still is shit though, lots of graphic filters != art.

Agreed. Everything in The Path was intentional. And I for one can’t wait for Tale of Tales next endeavor.

Well I'll just jump in here and say that the Path was both trash and brilliant at the same time. It wasted way too much time getting you between interesting set-pieces, but when you got there, the Wolves and Houses were mindblowingly brilliant. That and TOT is so pretentious I want to wring their necks and write them erudite fan letters at the same time.

Yep, The Path was exactly how they envisioned it to be I think. Basically designed to mock you entirely.

Yup, I thought The Path was very enjoyable and even gameplay wise an interesting study of game world interaction which I miss in modern games (at least I thought so). Will be keeping an eye on Salome.

    Edit: Eh, Fatale (freudian slip?)

The Path didn't have any mistake with the walking speed, it was just realistic, that is actually rare for a game, most of them are very fast-paced. Even when there is a walking animation in them, (often there isn't at all) it is ridiculously fast.
The Path was not "painfully" slow, or a waste of time. I didn't hurry anywhere, so why not enjoy the atmosphere, for the time you are walkking around? Like if I would really be in a forest, and not just getting from Quest A to Quest B, as soon as possible.

I don't think that it will be like The Path, it is supposed to be simplier, cheaper, shorter. They released The Path years after it was announced, but this one was only announced a few months ago...

BTW this is FATALE, not SALOME.

Eh my problem with the Path is the same with all artforms: just cause you're art doesn't give you an excuse to not keep me interested. Same goes for a five-hundred page book with three-hundred pages of content, a two hour movie with an hour of fluff, or an art exhibit with five paintings and a bunch of bare walls. But if you liked it, then, honestly, don't let me get you down, it's a fine experiment. I loved the wolves and houses, like I said; not so much the long, endless forest full of identical trees and gloom-bloom.
