Actually don't you have it the wrong way? It was announced for multiple platforms and then announced to be released first 'exclusively' on the 360 and the other versions to follow?

The combat sounds like it's an evolution of Grandia 2/3.

Excellent.

PS: I must say that EGs new advertising for shaun white is really intrusive and annoying, more so than their typical adverts.

Is it me or have people just decided to not bother making interesting environments and characters in jRPGs anymore? Happy to just do a slightly diluted update of FFX and FFXII imagery. I thought the same looking at the White Knight pictures too.

Surely this must be out on the 21st. I can't see stores selling this on a Thursday. Looks like it might be a good title though.

That Shaun White ad is bloody annoying.

Given that The Last Remnant is out worldwide on 20th November on the Xbox 360

Why the f*** can't they do that for FFXIII!? *scratches head*

The dying PC? That PC?? Wow, Square Enix might know something that the US corporations don't...Or maybe, Square's management is insane.... Didn't they heard that the PC is taking its last breaths??? That the piracy rate is rampant? Then why, why are they trying to release on a platform with so many problems....
Joke aside, if this comes out, I'll buy it on PC, just like I did with the FF7 and 8.

Out on the 20th? Bit of a surprise but then EG never bother updating their release dates pages very often: still down as a Winter 2008/2009 release.

I've read about the combat orders before, and I love the method. It reminds me of Bioware's radial dialog choice's of Mass Effect which kept the dialog interresting. And I love its aesthectics, even bought a 360 theme.
Realy, realy hyped about this game.

@retibra: I think you're right, when analising (someone is going to make fun of that word again...) it globally, but I believe the point is to reach success mainly in Japan.

No, it's not you. Jrpg's are nothing but stale anime ripoff's with outdated gameplay. Not that it matters as clearly there is a market for it.

Oh yeah, I know thats a bit of a general statement but seriously, you could line up a few random shots from Last Remnant and White Knight and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Oh and horrid 'fonts' used in the battle screen!

But its not just the PS3/360, look at monster hunter 2 and Valhalla Knights 2 (which is particularly criminal) on the PSP, same blandish environments and characters. It was like FFX ushered in something new and lovely and then everything went "ok we'll just use that as a template". I wouldn't even say they are Anime rip offs since they seem to have lost any of the uniqueness that they brought to the table. Perhaps they are pitching the games to be marketable worldwide and are concerned that if its not some tired old RPG fare that us in the West like, that we won't get it, so they keep bunging out their interpretations of what fantasy RPG should look like.

It'd be really nice if we saw something come in with a contemporary gameworld again. The thing about FF7 & 8 was that they had a cracking cyberpunky edge to it, and at least FF9 went the whole hog with the charming fantasy route. At least there are a few good things to come (I hope), the trio of FFXIII games and Level 5's PSP stuff like Ushiro.

I never understood that absolutly need for the jRPGs (on any genre) to always do somethig different (ok, I agree that in this particular genre is a bit frustrating to see that almost 100% of the comteporanean one follow the exact same route 10 years from now) but between a "classic" like Lost Odyssey (which does everything by the book) and one like Infinite Undiscovery (that I'm playing right now), which brought the hack“n“slash deep into its, otherwise, strict jRPG world, feels very, very odd, and I'm sure I prefer Lost Odyssey.
Is fun, though, but... it's a bit blasphemic.

Star Ocean 4 will probably have the hack and slash in it. I didn't really like it in Star Ocean 3, ended up putting the game down halfway through never to pick it up again.

I'm really looking forward to FF13versus. By all reports its a standard world map, summonings, dungeons, party system game. Basically the trusty jRPG of old brought up to date!

It's somehow cute to see them fail so hard at trying to reverse the current trend away from JRPGs.

While I applaud Square Enix's efforts to bring something new to the table, they should be concentrating on the story/role-playing side just as much as on the gameplay side - the paragraph describing the plot made me cringe right away, and for some reason I really have no hope of seeing even the tiniest bit of role-playing in this game (in the WRPG "you decide the plot" sense) other than some token combat move customization.

I wonder if that will change in the next decade or so, because actually I'd love to see something like a union of eastern aesthetics and western freedom, coupled with innovative gameplay elements.

Replace that "always" with "just freaking once" and the statement would reflect my sentiments exactly. Every time I see the next samey JRPG I get more and more disappointed, because frankly they used to be the shit, and as you correctly state, didn't change in the least during the last 10 years.
I guess I'm just disillusioned... Oh well. *boots up Nethack, which hasn't been changed for eons*

@Camorrista : what I meant was, I can have great pleasure playing a "used formula" game, but with some extra-high-quality "suit", and I don't mean only looks, but implementation as a whole. I don't crave "inovation" (what the heck is that word, anyway?), just for the sake of it.
