The Killers for Rock Band today
Plus Lamb of God, Yngwie Malmsteen.
Harmonix and MTV have bolstered the Rock Band library of music on Xbox Live.
Added today are three tracks by The Killers: "Mr. Brightside", "Smile Like You Mean It" and "Spaceman". These cost 440 Microsoft Points (GBP 3.74 / EUR 5.28) as a pack, or 160 Microsoft Points (GBP 1.36 / EUR 1.92) individually.
There's also music from Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, which we've never heard of. "Caprici di Diablo", "Damnation Game", and "Red Devil" are the tracks on offer, which, again, can be bought as a three-strong pack or individually.
Finally, there's "Laid to Rest" by Lamb of God, which is a brilliant name for a band. No we've never heard this song before, but you can for 160 Points.
Incidentally, there were also supposed to be Soundgarden tracks "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Pretty Nose" up today, but Major Nelson's blog claims these haven't shown up.
All Rock Band DLC will work in Rock Band 2 and vice versa, remember.

skip to 30s in for the start of the proper song.
Edit: now I think on it, Redneck also has some of the best metal drumming you will find anywhere

And how do you propose to emulate 'the best metal drumming' on a single pedal with no rebound?

NO idea. I simply demand the best, nothing less will do. I leave it to others to find the solutions.

Maybe the kit should support a second pedal input? As for the lack of rebound, the posh RB2 kit should have a better pedal surely? Hmmm, maybe it will support dual pedals?

The strange square thing shown bottom right is one of the pedals. You had a basic switchy thing for both hi-hat control and kick drum. I made a wooden holder for the kick drum switch that allowed me to attach a proper drum pedal. The beater would hit the switch when you stomped the pedal. It worked a treat.
Anyway, where am I heading with this? Not really sure. I just figure that there is space out there for a mod that takes the sensor out of the existing RB kick pedal and hangs it within a device that can be attached to a proper kick pedal AND provide decent rebound (which my contraption admittedly didn't really do).

Drums - no.
Proper mic - no.
Joy joy feelings - OH YES!
Speaking of which, when are the new instruments coming out?
...and how and why do you have to unlock all the fucking songs now? What's the point of that in a multiplayer game. Dicks.

Anyway, just been online to buy that Killers pack... £30 later, the selection of songs is just too good!

Totally agree, but I would extend the comment to single player too. RB and GH need to 'get with the program' on that particular issue. It is a hangover from some sense of a retro story driven single player progression model (which both games still insist on doffing their cap to), when really most people don't give a rats ass about that sort of thing. They just to play the tunes they like. Where is the fun in playing tunes you don't like, just to get the tunes you DO like?
I actually read a review the other (not a very good one, and not on this site) that suggested that the lack of single player unlock structure meant there was "little point in playing the game single player". I'm sure they didn't really mean that, because if they had I would have to assume they were very stupid.
"What about the simple fun or playing?" would have been my question, possible with a "dumbass" suffix. Unlocking progress has its place, but rarely are music games that place. CERTAINLY not music games with extensible catalogues.

The unlocking thing is especially stupid seeing as it wasn't the case in RB1... can you imagine Singstar or Lips having the same feature? Retarded.

^^ everything that is wrong with guitarists, far too much widdling and wanking solos.

That is a tutorial video ffs, of course it is full of technical stuff. Building technical ability is absolutely mandatory if you want to be able to express each and every idea that enters your head, whatever style you prefer.

Christ, I agree. At first I thought it was the same line but brought up in the mix (as they do with many of their tracks), but as it got further in it was clearly a different arrangement. Roughly the same, but not quite. And some of the key moments (moving into the chorus) were just missing all their punch

Something of a mistake for a games website, surely!

Oh, and he played a guitar using the roof of the club and with his teeth... All in all, impressive...
These days i have another friend who swears by 'Lamb Of God', too much shouting for me i'm afraid, give me System of A Down or Deftones any day...
