The Eurogamer TV Show - Episode 8 News

PC PlayStation 2 GameCube Xbox GameBoy Advance PSP DS Xbox 360 Mobile PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Johnny Minkley

12 March, 2007

Ever fancied taking part in a live action video game? Us neither, since it generally seems to involve smart-arse students with nothing better to do . Ubisoft's invitation to such an event, however, was not one to dismiss lightly.

Take a bunch of GRAW-obsessed ex-Special Forces operatives, a warehouse-load of tanks, a muddy field in Northamptonshire, and a liberal sprinkling of skeptical games journalists, bring to the boil and see the results in Episode 8 of The Eurogamer TV Show.

Oblivion's finally hitting PS3 on March 23rd after an award-winning, praise-lavished turn on 360 and PC. Bethesda's Peter Hines tells EGTV, one year on, why the team's spectacular RPG is still the mutt's nuts and a PS3 must.

But what of The Elder Scrolls Travels, the PSP version Bethesda announced but of which we've seen neither hide nor hair? Head Episode 8-wards for Hines's frank account of the portable project's status.

It's one thing breaking the bank to get various trendy celebrities to pose for photos with your cool-craving console. But can they be trusted to a) not to talk about everyone else's systems; and b) know anything about video games in the first place?

Two critical questions EGTV sought to answer at a recent Xbox Live bash in London, where Microsoft threw its highest-profile Game With Fame event yet, featuring such dynamic urban warriors as Dizzee Rascal, Busta Rhymes and, er, Tim Westwood. And in a sensational EGTV exclusive we reveal the moment Ellie meets her future husband for the very first time. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Just a very wet pair of lips.

Finally, what future the traditional games arcade? Vastly improved console technology, the advent of Xbox Live Arcade, and an explosion of peripheral-driven home greatness have systematically stripped out the wow factor from the coin-op industry.

But a whirlwind tour of ATEI 2007 - the top annual showcase for European coin-gobblers - suggests rumours of the arcade's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

It's all in Episode 8 of The Eurogamer TV Show, now showing.

There's a roundabout way to download them I've found to play on my phone, but I'm not sure if EG would approve...

Download the VideoDownloader extension for Firefox, then wait a couple of days for the show to appear on YouTube. Save the video, then convert it to your format of choice, then watch on your device.

Like I say, kinda long-winded, but if you're bored stiff at work then these kind of chores become a welcome distraction ;)

I find this show fairly useless for me. I'm simply not interested in watching the prerendered GRAW2 trailer again, nor Minkley getting shot at Ubi promo-event, nor attending a launch party of some game.
Segment on Oblivion is OK, so is the Jamma one (although the latter a bit less so).

Minkley getting shot at

This isn't satisfying footage for you? :D

I've yet to watch, but I hope they didn't hurt his tank top!

@skillian:
Well, sure you can also rip it directly from the screen with screengrabbing programs...
SnagIt being a personal fave...

But then it would come without the all important 'EG Approved' stamp...

Oh dear. If MS consider that particular group of 'celebs' to be representative of the 360 gamer then maybe I'm playing the wrong console...
At least Busta Rhymes has a personality I spose. The other 3 didn't seem to know the first thing about video games. I mean Simon 'Lighthouse Family' Webb even said he doesn't play them. Sheesh.

How can somebody like Westwood even exist? A 40-something-year old white guy pretending to be a "gangsta", woulden't the hip hop crowd spot a faker like that in an instant?

Westwood got away with it with the rappers because he kisses their arses, and he's got the only national FM HipHop radio show on which he gets to kiss rappers arses and promote their stuff.

He gets away with it with the listeners, because radio has no picture, so the first time HipHop heads heard Westwood talking sh*t and acting hard (almost 20 years ago now in some cases probably), nobody knew he was the white Ali G.
