The Darkness dated News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

28 March, 2007

2K Games has confirmed to Eurogamer this morning that The Darkness will launch across Europe on 29th June.

It will be available slightly earlier in America, on 25th June, and both console versions will launch simultaneously.

The game is being developed by Starbreeze, the studio behind The Chronicles of Riddick, and it's based on the Top Cow comic of the same name. It tells story of Jackie Estacado, a Mafia hitman who inherits The Darkness powers from his father on his 21st birthday.

It's essentially a first-person shooter with a bucket-load of added superhuman powers, which get progressively more impressive the further you venture through the game. You grow superhuman, tentacle-like arms and can transform into a Darkling in multiplayer. Excellent.

Lunge your way over to our recent first impressions for more information, or pop into our The Darkness gamepage for a look at the latest trailers and screenshots.

That's what the story says.

Like the look of this, and with Riddick behind them they have a great pedigree too.

edit: OK, that was in response to a previous comment, which now seems to have disappeared.

Oh good, this game seems to have been around for ages.

Shown off before the 360 launched I believe. Sometimes I think devs should keep their cards to their chests till alot closer to release.

I loved Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (I think I broke a finger trying to type out that title) but somehow playing a guy who grows tentacles everytime he enters a shadow just doesn't appeal to me. I hope I'm wrong though.

He does not believe in an abstract concept of love, but he believes in a 'thing' called 'love'.

I believe.

I'm with RM2KMaster on that one; Patton is the man.

From what I remember of a flick through the comics, he believes in assassination, demonic possession and lots of blood.

The thing is, having played Riddick, and having played Starbreeze's earlier title Enclave, I wonder how much influence Vin Diesel's Tigon Studios played in the former turning out excellent...?

Anyway, looking forward to this. I met a girl the other day who is in marketing for 2K. I think it worried her slightly that (thanks largely to EG) I know more about Take 2 than she does.

I must admit that hadn't occured to me - Let's hope they learned something from it...
