The Conduit dated for Europe
Ambitious Wii shooter will just make June.
SEGA has told Eurogamer that The Conduit will be released here on 26th June.
This further confirms the delay from "spring 2009" that was reported yesterday.
The hold-up, developer High Voltage told Joystiq, is down to the implementation of WiiSpeak voice chat and the testing and approval process linked to it.
The Conduit - a Wii-exclusive FPS - has gathered a significant following. This began when High Voltage said most Wii games "look like crap" and promised to prove the console could handle first-person shooters with feature-sets familiar to Xbox 360 and PS3.
That means online multiplayer, although this was trimmed recently from 16 players down to 12 players. But there will still be a variety of interesting modes to make use of.
High Voltage's bragging continues into graphics and performance, the evidence of which can be viewed over on The Conduit gamepage, where videos and screenshots lurk.

It say's on the official Conduit Site that the game uses Motion+!!
This is surely news to me!! Or am I just slow?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Morztan that may be the case, but for a point and shoot, is the extra movement detection needed, Im not sure that it would be?

It's not people fault though, it's the way we've been conditioned, even by evolution to a certain extent. Stripey yellow thing is stingy, massive grey elephanty thing is heavy and possibly trampley, and the cover of that must contain awfulness, using the case as a guide.

As I kid, I sometimes bought games for the mega drive on that basis.

No it couldn't because it will simply not be in the game. They already tried to implement it but deemed it unnecessary and scrapped those plans. Their explanation for the delay is to implement Wiispeak.

But it could have an impact though surely? Not everyone reads gaming website and will know what the game is about. If the cover has more cheese than chedar, then it could have an impact (though I admit it would most likely be small). A professional looking cover is part of the overall strategy for making a game sell, how many times have people purchased a game they have never heard of before because it looks interesting... I'm pretty sure that figure might be quite high.

Hell, I'm interested in the game but tempted not to get it as I think good design should be encouraged!

True, I agree that the public should make educated and informed decision on their products (especially a relatively big investment like a game), but if for example Asda marketed their chocolate chip muffins as "shit cakes" with a big picture of someone's starfish on the package I'm sure it would negatively impact sales.
Forgive me I'm being a tad facetious but you'd think someone inside High Voltage/SEGA would have the same sensibilities as most people in this thread and say "woah woah woah this looks terrible"?

The engine might feature a lot of bells and whistles, but I'm not too keen on the whole design of the game. The whole game looks bland, without real atmosphere. Compare it to Metroid Prime 3 and MP3 rises above The Conduit with head and shoulders. I thought Return to Castle Wolfenstein (a game from 2001) still has more going for it than this. That game had atmosphere, The Conduit doesn't.

You can look at it closely here: [link url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr oduct/images/B001P81GY0/sr=1-1/qid=1239967433/ref=dp_image_z _0?ie=UTF8&n=300703&s=videogames&qid=1239967433&sr=1-1 ]http://ww w.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/image...[/link]
I quite like it.
Or have I missed something and they've replaced it with a lame badly painted "action" picture that looks like an Amiga game cover from 1988?

I'm still getting it though as I like the control method.

I think it's the one that ShopTo are using that people dislike, the one with Jonny Generic-Hero on it.
Edit: I'm possibly wrong, depending on the individual, it might be the new cover on the SEGA site which looks... better but pretty average. Regardless, what's inside is what matters and I'm looking forward to it.
Edit2: And you know what, if I'm put in charge of the Advanced Weapons and Armour division I'll make sure that things don't give off a cool blue light. Christ, ever heard of camouflage?
