TGS: GT5 Prologue this year

In Japan, anyway, says Hirai.

Sony worldwide boss Kaz Hirai has announced that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released for PSN and Blu-ray in Japan on 13th December.

The news escaped from his Tokyo Game Show 2007 keynote address, which finished just moments ago.

However, no price was mentioned for the game, nor was a date for US and European versions.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is a taster of what to expect from the full GT5 package sometime in the future. It's got shiny cars, online play, and a handful of courses to try out.

Sony's grand plan is the release the racing game on both PlayStation Network and Blu-ray disc, although the difference in content is also yet to be confirmed.

Keep an eye on Eurogamer for a full run down of what Sony had to say in Tokyo this year, or head over to our archive of Live Text commentary for a blow-by-blow account.

Afrika is alive.

    At least they are keeping the PS3 fresh out there by these statements in installments. Worked for firmware well enough, and these have pictures and sounds. Zoinks!

    GT5P half arsed!?

    It's getting freaking Top Gear episodes and an online componant a first for GT (a little overdue but still...) if this is half arsed then I'll need a fresh wardrobe of pants for GT5.

    I'd be more interested if it had 5th Gear rather than Top Gear. Top Gear has turned into JackAss for old men. Stopped being about cars two years ago.

    Shut up you idiots, a demo on a ps3 wipes the arse out of full fledged PGR4! have you seen the detail of the London track!

    Ill assume no!

    Basically Kaz Hirai says it's not worth owning a PS3 until next year. That was the key note.

    I am not a 360 fan boy, I own a PS3 and I am pissed. Back to PC gaming for me and Team Fortress 2!!

    "wow quadruple post and it's not even 9am yet \o/"

    Pity none of the four had any value whatsoever. Next time, have some breakfast first.

    Gran Turismo with 16 cars, and 16 player online. And with in-car view. And proper wheel support (i.e. I can use my existing wheel. ;) ) And much improved physics.

    Everything else is pure candy!

    That's all I can see and think about. Great that they get out an early version like this, because the Gran Turismo games are so ridiculously large that waiting for them until they are finished is just not very efficient. :)

    Much better like this, and now they can work with user input much better also, maybe prevent making mistakes or neglecting features that we need to have in the final game.

    @aaron
    Are you telling me you are willing to pay double to be a beta tester. Thats pretty much what it comes down to. The game is unfinished so you can believe this payable version will have a lot of unfinished elements. Personally I would rather wait for the real deal then a chopped up version to generate interest in the PS3.

    You have to hate all the xbox fanboys coming onto this comments page and bad mouthing GT5 prologue. They give you a taste of what to expect from GT5 just like they did with GT4 and they complain, I suppose there just annoyed that it will never come to the xbox. I can't think of any other way of explaining there irrational hatred of a 40 million plus selling series.
  • T4RG4 #23 4 years ago

    I've had every version of GT, I have a good PC, I have a 360 too. A PS3 I do not. Why? Because, for me at least, there is nothing I want to buy for it. GT5 would be at the TOP of my shopping list if I did though.

    However, even if I did own a PS3 I'd be pretty annoyed at having to wait so long for what is a fantastic series to appear on my flaming machine. I'm pretty sure it'll be better than Forza2 (and so it should coming much later) but by then I'll have had great value out of a game which currently leads the pack.

    Polyphony = slow IMHO.

    "Top Gear has turned into JackAss for old men. Stopped being about cars two years ago."

    Top Gear used to be about cars?!

    "It's taking the piss making people pay for a demo of a game they will have to buy again."

    Calling GT Prologue a demo is stretching the truth a bit too much IMO (based on details that are currently available). And those people "made to pay" do so out of their own free will.

    You should be happy then, shouldn't you?
