TF2 Heavy update next Tuesday
More weapons, maps, gameplay modes.
Valve has confirmed the Heavy update for Team Fortress 2 will be released on PC on Tuesday 19th August.
Three new unlockable weapons will be added to the TF2 class, as well as more maps and a brand new gameplay mode. Valve calls this "the largest" update made to the game since launch.
Specific details on alterations and additions will be staggered to appear on the Heavy website between now and next Tuesday.
Team Fortress 2 designer Robin Walker has previously hinted that Heavy changes will make the class more viable solo, or without a Medic in tow.
The only official details released to date describes one of the community-made maps which will appear in the update.
To spur the community into action, Valve is offering Team Fortress 2 for free during the whole of next weekend, which begins 22nd August.
Head over to the "A Heavy Update" website to keep up to date.

I can't wait to see what they are doing with the new game mode too. I've been getting into Goldrush recently and I absolutely love it. Hopefully they will add another big twist to the gameplay along those lines.

I gave up hope of Valve giving us poor 360 owners any form of DLC months ago now. Shame because I think TF2 was 10 times the multiplayer game Halo3 and CoD4 were, and I'm extremely worried the same sort of thing is going to happen to Left 4 Dead. If only I had the money and holier than thou attitude to be a PC gamer.

No. Obviously not.

On the other hand, Sony is totally free and open about content, but the guys at Valve are total fanboys.
Everyone loses, except PC.

Looking forward to this seeing as it's my most played role.

@BBIAJ: Sorry mate but the 360/ps3 versions are screwed, no updates. There was a rumor some time back about a possibility of new maps as DLC (most likely the Goldrush map).

The new Goldrush map/mode is probably my favourite so far

There is specualtion on the HLDS mailing list from a chap who noticed some server-side cvars which have been hanging around for a while, may point towards the new mode being an Arena gametype.
EA would want 20 quid for that little lot!
As for 360 content, Doug Lombardi went on record to say that the certification process to get more content on the 360 was too tiresome to do continually, which is why there is no DLC. There may be an issue with MS wanting to charge as well (which he didn't specifically mention obviously), but I'm inclined to believe it was more the increased workload to get DLC certified than anything else.

I'm a PC gamer, and I can tell you, we have the money because we are holier than Thou.
A lot holier.

You're anything but poor. 90% of game articles nowadays don't even mention the PC version of a game, and reviews of multiplatform games are based on X360 more often than not. You have XBLA and you have exclusives that may or may not come to the PC. Everyone acts as if that's how things are supposed to me, but when we get a treat and you don't, suddenly everyone is either crying or yelling.

TF2 is by far the best PC online FPS at the moment and will probably go from strength to strength over the next couple of years, it even stopped me from playing counter strike.
