Team Ninja to do more PS3 titles News

PlayStation 3 News by Rob Fahey

14 June, 2007

Ninja Gaiden Sigma director Yosuke Hayashi has spiritedly defended the PlayStation 3 in an exclusive interview with Eurogamer - and all but confirmed that Team Ninja will be working on further titles for the platform.

Speaking in London yesterday, Hayashi slammed developers who complain that the PS3 is difficult to create games for - saying that "if they think it's difficult, they should get out of the ring."

Responding to a question about whether the team had found it difficult to transition from working on the Xbox to the PS3, Hayashi said, "there are some developers who have complained about the difficulty of developing for PS3. But, I am a creator, a developer - and by making a product, we receive money from the players. We shouldn't complain about the difficulty."

In other words, it's their job, and they're just getting on with it.

Hayashi responded in similar terms when asked if the team, which has recently focused most of its efforts on Microsoft's platforms, plans to extend its support for the PS3 in future.

"As I said, people who complain about the difficulty of creating games for PS3 should get out, right?" Hayashi commented. "While I'm saying that kind of thing, if I get out myself, then what I say doesn't mean anything! So, I should stay - right?"

Given some of his earlier comments about plans for the SIXAXIS controller in future games, it seems almost certain that Team Ninja has plenty more in store for Darth Vader's George Foreman Grill down the line. We'll have the full interview with the outspoken Yosuke Hayashi, as well as our impressions of Ninja Gaiden's PS3 outing, available for your reading pleasure in the coming days.

What he says doesn't make any sense.

Still, lets hope the game turns out alright.

I'd like to see Team Ninja do something that isn't Dead Or Live, Xtreme (eurgh, the last 360 game was dreadful) or Ninja Gaiden (and doesn't have half-naked, big-breasted girls in it!) personally because they do seem to like milking their successful franchises to death, much like EA really!

How about a nice platform game with cute characters or an RPG? ;)

I have a soft spot for these Ninja productions. But maybe it's beacuse it's one of the only Japanese pulp thing that's actually coming out for 360. NG2 would be awesome, but a DOA5 I wouldn't mind either

Oh, and I don't mind boobs in games, so that's a plus to.

After witnessing what they managed to create with the original Xbox, it is hardly surprising that they have produced a very component game, both technically and artistically, on the PS3.

That said, if you compared the difference Epic managed with the Unreal engine on Xbox to UE3 on Xbox 360 – Team Ninja do not seem to have made as significant a leap. Now do not get me wrong I feel there needs to be a 50/50 split between the fact that they probably produced the best looking game ever on Xbox by some margin – to this Gen where they seem to be trailing just under the pinnacle; which is a place most developers dream of but feels like a step back for Team Ninja to me.

Edit - thought I better back up my claims with a little evidence.

Ok he is just saying that "Yeah it is hard but I got the gutts to do it so I stay. If the rest can't, stop whining and don't even try anymore" Thats what I understand from his statement and my mind can't be changed. He never actually answered and that's not as tough as he tried to sound :p

WHEN IS NINJA GAIDEN 2 COMING OUT ON 360???? COME ON ALREADY!!!!
all this delay for the remake of the first part on the PS3... :S Why don't we wait till they can fit it for the Wii as well then, huh??? *la loosers"

If it was anyone but Team Ninja, I'm sure people would care. As is... well, DoA post-2 have been pants, DOAXBV was pretty cool but DOAX was pants, and there's on been one Ninja Gaiden in the modern era so far. Why would we care?

And lo, the corner doth turn: devs renowned for graphical perfection defending the PS3.

Early reports even suggest that R6Vegas looks better on the PS3. Shame on you bandwagoners for brandishing shoddy early ports in PS3 owners faces like they were conclusive evidence.

Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is simply their best work, even now it still stand up quite well. Rest of their work over recent years ...

So hoping they will indeed do themselves a justice with future games whether on X360 or PS3.

Those cinema blend comparisons were laughable, considering that the Xbox game does not look that good at all. Anyone who's actually played both version of the games knows that Sigma is an overhaul graphically, with the same artistic direction that throws off some people. Higher poly counts, depth of field, more texture variety, self shadowing etc etc. Heck, even some areas in the demo were overhauled. To give you a good idea, compare some screen caps, not press release screens. Better yet, boot up both games yourself.

At the end of the day, it's JUST a remake, so maybe Hayashi should do an original title first and then rant.

“with the same artistic direction that throws off some people”

If they’d had any taste artistically (or at least a taste that resembles mine more closely) I might be interested in Team Ninja’s games.

But whether you personally like them or not is not that relevant in the grander scheme of things. A developer stating support for PS3 can hardly be considered as a bad thing for the PS3.

There are some screen grab's that are lower quality than it actually runs on the Xbox (doubly so the 360).

http://www.xboxsolution.com/2005/07/21/n...

The images you used could not be less defined - the Xbox Images Seem very poorly captured (RF lead?) - while the PS3 Seem to have a contrast level that is in no way connected to the onscreen colours available.

Nobody is saying the PS3 version is weak - just that the Original Xbox version was so strong - on PS3 it seems more version 1.5 than 2.0.

The same thing was apparent on Far Cry with Xbox v xbox 360

I'd love to know if he has this attitude because his own coders hate developing the PS3.

I imagine he'd change his mind if he was the one who had to actually step into the ring. That'll be because he's too busy telling his team that they should LOVE 15 hour work days and keeping Ikatagi out of court.

I didnt care to check the pictures you bring as an example but if there isnt a big difference from the xbox version that is so old to the PS3 then that would be just stupid. Even if I have finished the game and since I wont be getting a PS3 and care about playing from the biggining the same thing for just the graphics after so long, I can naturally be intrested in NG2... When is that thing coming out? They haven't said anything about it? Year maybe?Or somethen in between 2088-2010? :/ I haven't read a thing about that...
