Team ICO "hard at work" on Last Guardian

But no word on when we'll see it again.

Sony's European boss Andrew House has admitted it would be nice to see The Last Guardian again, but has no idea when we will.

"Yes, we would love to have more of an update on The Last Guardian. The team is hard at work on it," he told Eurogamer after the game's no-show at the Sony conference.

"Having spent six years working in Japan, I can guarantee you people will be hard at work, all hours of the night and day," he said when we asked whether they were really hard at work on it or just watching Hollyoaks and eating crisps.

"I have not seen it recently, other than what's been shown publicly," he added.

So why not give us an update at E3? After all, it was originally announced at E3 in 2009, and now it's disappeared. "I think the team just made a decision that they didn't want to talk about the progress on the game or reveal it at this particular stage, and we have to respect that," House explained.

"I couldn't say right now," was his take when we asked if Last Guardian will be at Cologne's gamescom in August or the Tokyo Game Show later this year.

Oh well. Watch last year's trailer again, close your eyes and hope.

Fair play to Sony for giving them the hands-off approach. Not many studios are afforded that luxury.

I'm sure that leeway will be rewarded by the delivery of a super quality product.

    Go team ICO.

Super-excited about this, but I kinda like not knowing too much. I want it to be a huge, spectacular surprise when it comes out. If it's anywhere near the quality of ICO and Shadow, it's gonna be another top ten of all time in my book. :)

I'm happy for them to take as long as they need on this one. While I can't wait to play it, it means I can put off buying a PS3 a bit longer.

Fingers crossed for the ICO collection.

Actually, a friend of mine worked at Team Ico for a bit and said that they were the most relaxed Japanese developer he's worked for...

Which perhaps explains why their games take so long... But almost certainly also explains why their games are so good.

Why the H! would TeamICO being watching Hollyoaks?

You mean you hadn't noticed the clear thematic resonance between the two?

Take your time. This game may finally make me buy a PS3, and I can't really afford it at the minute.

This is the game that, once released, will force me to buy a ps3. Its the only exclusive ps3 game that i am interested in apart from Demon Souls. But I am willing to wait if its even half as good as ICO was.

As with any software project you can have it on budget, you can have it on time or you can have quality software. You might occasionally be able to get two out of three but you'll rarely if ever have all three. I'm glad to see they're focusing on the quality; so many games don't.

Hard at work means that they're sipping Martinis and driving fast cars on a sabbatical in Montevideo.

Although I was disappointed that The Last Guardian was a no-show, the developers have earned enough respect in my eyes for me not to be angry about it. When a source says they are hard at work it gives me even more confidence in them. I'm just gonna look forward to being blown away when they do reveal more of it.

My bets are on an update at Tokyo Game Show.
  • Kaminari #15 2 years ago

For all intent and purpose, the game seems to have purely and simply vanished. After almost five years of waiting, I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed by the sheer lack of communication. And I'm not going to wait 2011 for it to be released.

If this has anywhere near the resonance that Ico had for me, then I will be one happy bunny. Always tipped my hat to Team Ico for the way they convey emotion without the use of vocabulary. Astonishing skill that.

I hurts me to wait for this.

Yes, you should just drop dead right now.

Great news, far too many games have the players know far too much of their story/secrets through press releases/announcement trailers. TLG hopefully will not be one of them, we can safely walk into a shop on launch day, bring it home, and be quietly amazed by our own discoveries!.

    godspeed team ICO
  • Beano #20 2 years ago

Fine by me - don't rush it and deliver another classic instead. Plenty of games for the next year.
  • webcider #21 2 years ago

Team ICO has so much respect that they can just release it without showing for all i care just give a release date a week before it happens ^^
  • Keivz #22 2 years ago

It'll be done when it's done. And it'll be spectacular.
  • TexMurphy01 #23 2 years ago

Haha, Hollyoaks and crisps. Whatever next?
  • InjuredNinja #24 2 years ago

It was a tad disappointing TLG wasn't shown at all, but I'm sure they will have a new trailer or a demo at TGS. Either way, here's hoping they keep enough surprises for the release, I followed all the coverage possible on Shadow and was still impressed, didn't feel anything was ruined.

@ Kaminari - That's good, don't buy the game. That's one more copy for someone who has the patience to wait for brilliance.
