Tales of Symphonia on Wii this autumn

Atari doing Euro honours, adding bits.

Atari will bring Wii role-playing game Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World to Europe this autumn, complete with some exclusive regional content.

Those bits are a Gallery mode - unlocked on game completion, containing gameplay skits and various concept art - and more masks and headgear for new heroes Emil Castagnier and Marta Lualdi.

Dawn of the New World picks up where the GameCube's excellent Tales of Symphonia left off, and follows Emil and Marta as they journey to find out what's gone wrong with their world

The major new addition is the monster collection system that lets players capture and evolve over 200 monsters and use them in battle. But only three can be picked at a time, so selection will need strategical relevance based on the enemy at hand.

Dawn of the New World lets you and up to three friends work co-operatively during the real-time battles, too.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New world has already been released in Japan and the US. Metacritic averages Western opinion at 68 per cent.

It's been getting some pretty average scores, but in all honesty the first was one of the best games I've ever played. I wanna see what happens dammit!

Well that's a surprise. Somewhat late, of course, but I wasn't expecting it at all.

Vepseria's supposed to be out in June.

What's the word on this one? From the fans of the first game, I mean. The average score does look a bit low.

I like the names of the new heroes. My ex girlfriend's name is Marta.

Finally, someone stepped up and did what Nintendo themselves should have done. I have to say that I'm not as excited about it as I was the original mainly because the cel-shaded graphical style is no more. Should be good though and I'll definitely be getting it if only to support a 'proper' Wii game.

Normally when I hear an ex's name my whole body starts to pulsate in anger :p

And oh, Vesperia in July, eh? No worries, I'll just play Star Ocean to make up for it lol

I loved the first game, and the sequel's pretty good too. It does reuse a lot of artwork from the original (even down to many of the camera angles when you're walking around towns), and it's a shame it's lost the proper world map. The plot is very tied in to the first game, so probably wouldn't make much sense to anybody coming to it fresh. For fans of the original, though, it's pretty much more of the same, which is more or less what I wanted it to be.

*sniff* And here was me thinking they weren't gonna bring it to europe.

See.. this is why metacritic is pointless.

The average is 67%, but then you read the top half of the reviews 85 to 90% (written by fans of the genre*) and then the bottom half 40 to 58 (Written by people bored of the genre*), and you can see why the numbers mean f-all.

Without the words to go with the reviews - the numbers themselves been sod all.. but yet gamers always put all their faith into the numbers rather than the words.. sigh...

    * -> approximations, just like metacritic.

The extra content sounds dreadful, but bah gawd it's good to hear we're finally getting it! \o/ Most excited I've been about an upcoming Wii release in ages

They are a bit... slow with this, no? I remember sampling the American version ages ago on my modded Wii and making a mental note to purchase it once it's out for Europe. And they will only make it available in Autumn??? Holy shit...

Anyway, yes, the game is actually pretty good if you liked the first one.
