Tabula Rasa selling for under a dollar News

MMO PC News by Robert Purchese

7 November, 2008

Amazon US is selling copies of Tabula Rasa for less than a dollar, or 61 pence in good Queen Elizabeth's money. This doesn't bode well.

Unfortunately, shipping outside of America is rather tricky, and the UK arm of the site is charging a whopping GBP 4.49 for the struggling MMO.

Of course NCsoft, which recently laid off rather a lot of staff, believes Tabula Rasa has a rosy future, and recently unveiled a brand new Earth-based expansion for the game.

This was followed by more signs of life from the online science-fiction world, when we heard a revamped FPS camera was on the way, along with scope and cockpit views, and new weapons like rocket launchers.

Head over to our Tabula Rasa gamepage to find out more.

I'd buy it for full price - I did when it was launched. It's a fantastic MMO and far better (and more innovative) than the overrated WoW.

Selling something for a dollar is like saying: 'This product is crap'.

If you're a real gamer, you don't buy a Mac. Which is why WoW on Mac has been such a success.

Tabula Rasa should be put to sleep. It was a good idea but, like many MMOs before and since, was implemented badly.

I'm a real gamer. I just don't game at my desk. I game on my huge telly from the luxury of my insanely comfortable sofa, and I don't feel like I'm really missing out on a single thing because I don't like RTS games anyway. I also wasn't aware that I was only allowed to play an MMO if I was a 'real gamer'. But seeing as I am one anyway...

But sorry, that kind of pisses all over your "MACSLOL" comment. Please carry on as if I was cut to the bone.

So now we're paying over 500% what Americans do? Screw that on principle.

Guild Wars worked because it was free. NC Soft either need to do more games like that, or put more time into developing new content for GW.

Shame this game has come on massively since launch and now is a heck of alot of fun. It's worth a look definately - less than a fiver? thats a bonus and you get the game plus a month play free which is a good deal, of course there are trials to check it out first too.

#1 problem with Tabula Rasa. It's called Tabula Rasa. What a moronic name for a game. What kind of a marketing department would allow that idiot "Lord British" to name a multi-million dollar MMO Tabula Rasa? I guess a Korean one that doesn't understand English but still. Anyone with a marketing degree could tell you that wasn't going to fly. Dumb. I guess they are paying the price because the whole thing was DOA.

Lamont,

Tabula Rasa is a Latin term and refers to the belief that humans are born a 'blank page', free of any built in belief or ideology.

So to my mind its the perfect name for a game which features character customization, branching paths, decisions with consequences... i.e. any RPG or MMO.

Surprised its not been used sooner to be honest.

They run City of Heroes/Villains, too and that's a pretty fun game.
