SWG claims 3m player-made quests News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

23 November, 2009

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that players have created over three million quests for its Star Wars Galaxies MMO in just over a month. The quests were made using the new Chronicle Master system for content creation.

That's a remarkable number, considering that Galaxies' subscriber numbers have recently shrunk to such an extent that SOE had to close nearly half its servers. One individual player is said to have made over 6000 playable quests.

Perhaps it's the ability to use iconic Star Wars characters that has players hooked - or the loot that's unique to the Chronicle Master system.

Galaxies isn't the only ageing MMO that has chosen user-generated content as a route to keeping its world fresh. NCsoft launched the Mission Architect for City of Heroes earlier this year, and declared itself "astounded" by the results.

Since they are making their own content and half the servers are now down does that mean the monthly fee has gone down? Or even gone? ....No?.... *puts SWG back down*

I miss playing SWG I got very into the game back in the day, the NGE destroyed that game like a death star ray. Everyone wanting to be a Jedi. It is a massive shame.

KOTO online for me I guess!

SWG's success has always based itself on user-gnerated content really. player politics and economy made the game interesting back in the day. A feature like the one implemented now would have been solid gold 5 years ago.

So "quality" describes the numbers given from Sony Online Entertainment, once again :P Or do they really expect us to envy this statement? I just some times wonder. Are some ppl that stupid? With what kind of logic do you come out giving those numbers? I dont understand whats meant to be impressive from this :S

I have to feel that those 6000 playable quests can't exactly be "epic". What are these player quests like, does anyone know? Are there any guidelines or quality control in place? Or is it talk to this guy then talk to the guy standing next to him and get 10k XP then repeat ad level cap?

If they just reset everything to a pre-cu build I can almost guarantee their subscription would vastly increase. Stubborn fools.

One month... 6000 quests, 672 hours... So he made 1 quest every 6 minutes? Seriously Sony? Do they believe their own bullshit?

Wow, I hadn't done the maths Dizzy but you're right, that's complete shite.

I bet each of these alledged 3m quests is a pearl alright. I guess it must be nice that each NPC in the game has at least 30 quests. Shame as I'm sure some of them are good. I wonder if you can filter out the player made stuff to see the official quests.
