SW Republic Heroes demo on Live News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

3 September, 2009

LucasArts is offering an Xbox Live demo for Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.

This is the cartoon action game where Obi-Wan Kenobi's beard appears to be carved from wood.

There's drop-in and drop-out co-op to sample, either as a Lightsaber-wielding Jedi or as a Clone Trooper with guns galore.

Don't expect much depth, but do prepare for a colourful, mindless romp. Read our Republic Heroes E3 preview to find out more.

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is due out this September on DS, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360. There may be a PS3 demo available later today.

Will The Force be strong with this one? I think not.

I won't even bother, the animation looked horrendous.

Initial STAR WARS excitement tempered by realising what this is.

Hmm.

I think my money might be better spent getting a Star Wars fix with The force unleashed (especially if this new edition comes out with all the DLC included).
Having said that after a slight drought during the first half of the year it seems like the 360 is about to have a tsunami of good games so even the purchase of the force unleashed might have to wait until after Xmas.

SW:TFU gets a lot of stick but I thought it was freakin fantastic from start to finish.

It may have some slightly annoying bits, and I died more times than I care to remember but I carried on. Not all that many games these days that can punish me so hard and I want to continue playing it.

Totally agree - got force unleashed expecting it to be a bit meh after the rather crap demo. Fantastic wee game in the end, took me a while to get through it and there are a few glitches (can i really make that jump?) but it was a delight. Bought all the DLC too just to feed the habit!

Just got done playing the demo. It's pretty OK. I think people are too harsh on the series as a whole. The movie was awful and some of the episodes have been quite childish too, but others have been much darker and a lot more serious.

The Clone parts play like a twin stick shooter, which isn't too interested. The Jedi parts are definitely a lot more interesting but still there's not much depth, although I think part of the problem is that they're just tutorial levels. I could see it getting better later on when you're not just learning the basics and listening to Yoda tell you what to do every four seconds.

I think if it was a reasonable price, it'd be decently fun to play through on co-op, as long as you don't mind the Clone Wars. For everyone else, have fun picking it apart.

Didn't find the demo at all interesting. Like #8 has mentioned, the clone game is a kind of rudimentary twin stick shooter, but I found it a little repetitive and sometimes quite difficult to aim. The "slice the computers" was yet another "lets put a random mini puzzle game inside a game" that we've seen since Mass Effect. The Jedi game was a bit better, but once again as #8 says, Yoda pops up with his backward speak almost every time you take a step forward, which was just too jarring for me.

agree the force unleashed is a great looking and fairly decent game .imo not worth full price though, but you can pick it up for £15 now so well worth it. anyway gonna try this later but feel it will be aimed at the under 16 market.(suit me well then)

Loved TFU. Hated this demo. Its coop alright but it plays and looks like a poor mans Lego Star wars.

edit: My 8 year old daughter didnt like it either. She actually liked the pretty lame UP demo a lot better.

It's rare for me not even to finish a demo. But this was a whole new level of shit.

The Clone Wars franchise started off really well with the Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons and some awesome comics, but now it's a big pile of scruffy looking nerf herders.

As a Star Wars geek (yes I even have the tattoo) this rendition of the clone wars bugs the crap out of me. It's about time Lucas dropped the whole clone wars and focused on something else.
