It has finally happened. This demo and Ufo: Afterlight finally will get me to play something on my pc again. I have not touched it for gaming for the last couple of months because my 360 is doing it's job really well.

I hope it's good, I could use a good RTS again.

Recommended specs:

# 3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
# 1GB RAM or better
# 8GB available hard drive space
# 256 MB Video RAM, with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader/Pixel Shader 2.0 support (Nvidia 6800 or better)

Anything less and you are asking for trouble (like 2 FPS). A dual core processor helps a lot (as does a second monitor - there's a lot going on)

It's hardly revolutionary, but it's fun. I love the scale, it really feels quite epic. Not too happy about the performance, some AI issues and the HUGE interface at lower resolutions.

It's a bit iffy. The interface/HUD really has to be seen to be believed - it's hideous.

have they made it so you can change your view by clicking on the minimap yet? that was a huge gripe with me in beta. :(

All I can think of when reading this title is the Clit Commander scene from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

It gives a good impression of the final retail game, it feels rushed, stuff like the static image on the loading screen which was clearly going to be animated at a later stage, to the static 'backdrop' when you zoom all the way out of the map, which looks like it's 800x600 then upscaled to whatever res you have, rather than having a different sized source graphic depending on your resolution..

cracking little game, wish they spent an extra 2-3 months polishing the corners tho.

First game that has fully utilized my dual montiors w00t! Great game, HUD is hideous though and it would have been cool if you could change your view on one screen by clicking on the big one on your second one. Does take alot of time to build a big force and first impressions are if you throw enough men at the enemy, you win, not exactly very tactical.

Donny, I'm hoping that's due to the AI. It certainly seems as if the game is deep enough for multiplayer to be more subtle. Time (about 9 days) will tell.

Yep, I have!

It's really good, feels and plays like Total Annihilation although as bad points I have to say the interface is not the best and you don't feel as much as in Total Annihilation (battles are not as immersive). This could be because the fantastic zoom though. AI is not the best but miles better than most RTS games I have played to date.

It runs great on my machine so can't complain about that.

Got to say about the interface that people in the mod com is already working on that so I would expect improved ones as soon as the game is out.

I'm disappointed, apart from the zoom in/out (admittedly impressive) I could swear this is just Total Annihilation with a new graphics engine... The comment about the battles not being as immersive as TA is spot-on too.

The core Total Annihilation gameplay is superb though. If you are a TA fan you'll feel at home straight away... but that's the problem, I found myself just queuing up the same set of orders I would have done in TA, building my forces in exactly the same way and winning in exactly the same way.

If you've never played TA then this is one great game, if you have, you might find it just gets a big "MEH" :(
