Super Turrican and Psychosis on VC

Get your Wii Points ready.

SNES title Super Turrican and the TurboGrafx-16's Psychosis are this week's Virtual Console duo in PAL regions.

The former, developed by Factor 5, rocks up for the usual 800 Wii Points and supports the Classic and GameCube controllers.

Psychosis, meanwhile, is from Naxat Soft, costs 600 Wii Points, and supports the Classic and Cube pads as well as the Wiimote for control.

According to our old friend Wikipedia, Psychosis is a side-scrolling shooter (actually, we could have guessed that) and allows you to position indestructible satellites around your ship to help with the virtual murder.

Turrican, meanwhile, is a side-scroller too, but with more exploration elements, and gives the player a Bionic Commando-style grapple-arm to help out.

Look for reviews of both in an upcoming Virtual Console Roundup.

Is Super Turrican good? I LOVED Turrican 2 on the C64.

I had the first Turrican on Amstrad CPC and didn't buy another game for months!

First VC title I've been excited about ever!

    AMIGA VERSION FTW! Turican 2!

No way man, the C64 versions are definitive. God I loved those games!

How ironic that this is released on the same week as the C64 VC is announced... I wish we'd've got the C64 versions instead!

Also, I know this has probably been mentioned a billion times before and Nintendo are just sticking their fingers in their ears laughing at us, but how come they keep adding more and more formats to the VC compatibility list and yet are still only trickling out 2 - or even 1 - game per week?

Please sort it out. Please? Anybody?

Wow.. Turrican.. If only the joystick port on my C64 hadn't given up, I could just plug it in and play both Turrican and Turrican 2 again, the way it should be played: on a 14 inch monitor with mono sound and a Wico Redball joystick :D

Super Turrican = best Turrican game. It's like a "best of Turrican 1 & 2" from the Amiga, and the awesome Hulsbeck music doesn't drop out when you shoot.

Turrican and its sequel were two of my favourite games on the Amiga and both had a stunning soundtrack from Chris Huelsbeck that still sounds terrific today. I've never played Super Turrican as I never owned a SNES but I've no doubt it's good if it's also from Factor 5. Shame then that I've got just 91 blocks left on my Wii's internal memory and I'm fed up of copying stuff to and from the 2 GB SD card I have so I won't be buying this until Nintendo address this "issue" by making it possible to run games from memory cards.

I remember loving super turrican...but this was a long time ago so it may be rubbish :)

Turrican 1+2 were Amiga games really, weren't they? Back-ported to the C64 later on.
  • erp #14 4 years ago

Oh no no no no no. I can't be bothered to dig out the link (it was probably on Wikipedia, anyway) but there's a quite from Manfred Trenz (The Original Turrican Developer) stating that the C64 version is definitely the original version, even though some strange circumstance meant that Turrican 2 appeared on the Amiga first.

I just cleared out all my Wii Points buying someone else Street Gangs. I'm not getting anymore until Mario pulls his finger out his arse and gets me extra storage space.
I mean, what's the point in so many channel spaces if i can only full half of them?

    Finally, another game worth buying.

I actually have it on cartidge, but it's faulty, and freezes up after a few minute's play. I absolutely loved the Amiga versions. I even bought the arranged music CD by Hulsbeck. So they've found their target audience with this one.

No. Turrican was released on C64 first.
