Super Paper Mario Reader Review
Right before I get started on the nitty-grittiness of the review I'd like to point out that I feel it is a welcome change to the formula of the Paper Mario game series. Where most game sequels start to go stale on their numerous reincarnations whether its because the game play remains the same or its only justification for existence is to make money for the publisher. The reason I feel this game is so good is because of the fact they altered the game play elements to be completely different to previous versions.
With that out of the way on to the main points.
The humour of this game is, in many ways, so funny that I laughed out loud (or LOL as the internet likes to put it) many times during the game. For you see there are so many classic one liners in the game which I don't won't to spoil for you now but at the beginning when it explains the controls such as press A to flip dimensions, Mario shakes his head in a sort of what are you on about way then the character will respond saying, "Do not worry, I'm sure if there is a being watching in another dimension they will understand."
There are also lots of other references to things like computer errors, old Mario games and many other little intricacies that make the game have lots of style and charm.
Now the graphics are some of the most polished on the Wii with very little jaggies showing or at least I never noticed any and they are so smooth and wonderful I could just play a pure 2D platformer in these graphics and it would be great.
Of course that is not to say that it's perfect, far from it. There have been many reports saying that it crashes when you talk to someone in a certain order and whilst I never encountered it it seems to be fairly widespread to be a slight nagging annoyance. Also the fact that you can not remain in 3D for a great length of time means that exploring in 3D occasionally means you have to wait for the timer bar to fill back up. Plus the fact its actually quite difficult to aim your jumps on to enemies in 3D.
Although I would like to point out you can actually unlock the ability to remove the time limit after you complete the game by going through a 100 floor dungeon challenge which also helps to increase the life span of the game, plus the fact there are also a few hidden secret Pixl in the game.
There is much more I'd like to talk about but then this would not be a review and more of a discussion, plus I'd be spoiling what is essentially one of the greatest Wii games to come out.
