Super cars for SEGA Rally News

PC PSP Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

11 September, 2007

SEGA has opened up its garage to reveal a quartet of monster-beast-things-with-wheels that you will be able to race in its upcoming Rally game.

First to pop its bonnet is the Mitsubishi Concept-X, a fictional car with a shape inspired by a jet fighter. Gulp. There's a big engine with two litres of something in it, turbo bits, twin crotches, some sort of all-wheel drive system and some aluminium body stuff probably stolen from Coke cans.

Then there's this RUF Rt 12 one, which sounds a little bit like it was invented by dogs. But clever dogs, ones that can take other people's cars and make them go faster than 200mph.

McRae's here, too, although he's changed his name to Alister and made a car called the Enduro. This one doesn't exist in the real world, either, but is designed to drive on dirty bits with big rocks on - using its polite suspension, quartet-wheel drive, and over-achieving driving dynamics.

Or you could pop on some jewellery and eat up some petrol in the Hummer H3 SUV. Game artist Keith Burden has got his hands on this fictional beast, too, and spruced it up for SEGA Rally.

He's taken off some doors and dropped the ride height, we reckon, and probably notched up the wheel arch for more clearance. He's also added those Rally-Raid wheels and tyres, we think.

Joining these mostly imaginary vehicles will be a host of rally rides that you've probably seen on telly.

SEGA Rally is the fast and furious arcade racer due out on 360, PS3, PC and PSP on 28th September.

We're dead excited about it, and have seen it from varying angles in its run-up to release. Pop over to our SEGA Rally gamepage to examine it.

So any inkling of a classic mode of chasing down 1st place from the back a la the original (and best so far) Sega Rally...? Now that would be great...

When saw the title I thought we would be getting some Groub B action, Audi Quattro, Metro 6R4, Ford RS200. Cars with stupid amounts of power, rallyings best years. Not this pish. A car shaped like a jet fighter, what the hell?

Erm, the Mitsubishi Concept X already exists, and er, so does the RUF RT12.

Hell, whilst we're at it, the McRae Enduro also exists and even has a registered numberplate, EU07 XKA.

Are things going mad or is it me? I just also read a news story that Sonic 3 is out on US VC and that you could only get it in the US, but I downloaded it here in the very English county of Wiltshire last week.

I don't understand this news article... do the cars exist in the game? in real life? or was it all just a dream? And would that make it any less "real"?

I think that Eurogamer have expressed a little artistic license with their coverage of this.

The Concept-X is essentially the next Evo that'll be out next year some time, just the concept version of it which was 'inspired' by the look of jet fighters.

The Enduro is real and actually featured in its first rally the other day.

The Hummer is the only fictional one as it's been customised by SEGA.

The RUF is a Porsche all modded up.

FooAtari - There are some classics in the game already such as the Stratos. Have a look at the sega-europe site.

Wasn't aware of the Concept X car. ( feels stupid). As for the RUF, I didn't think there were much Porche rally cars going these days, apart from Classic rallying. Don't suppose that means they can't have it in the game mind you.

The McRae Enduro, isn't that the car that has been built for the single make series he is trying to get going? Is that in the game?

I'll check it out LeSpank, sounds good. I hope they are suitably powerful in the game

LeSpank : I've been waiting to see a screenshot of the Stratos but so far I haven't. Couldn't find it where you said, or anywhere else I've looked, any help ?

If anyone wants to see pics of the 4 concept cars mentioned in this article they can be found here. Don't worry about the URL either, I can confirm 100% that the website has nothing to do with Oasis. Not sure about Mike Flowers...

Thanks afray, it wasn't that entry you linked to, but in the 22nd August entry on that blog where I finally found it !! Nice one. For a minute I was thinking it might've been cut. Good to see the Mini, Audi Quattro & RS Cossie too.

Here's loads more pics of the Concept cars at Gamersyde.

Nice. The H3 is real though.

The humour in this article is odd.
