Street Fighter X Tekken details spill
Out in two years.
Capcom aims to release the recently announced Street Fighter X Tekken crossover fighting game in two years.
The Japanese game company expects to make its next major announcement for the game, which was revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, at Capcom's Captivate event in April 2011.
Capcom also believes Street Fighter X Tekken will be released before Tekken X Street Fighter, also announced at Comic-Con.
Development on the game began just one or two months ago, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono told Japanese game mag Famitsu (thanks, Andriasang, via VG247).
Ono had talked with Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada about doing something together ages ago, but real discussions with Namco Bandai Games began about a year prior to the game’s announcement.
Apparently Capcom's work with Namco Bandai on the Gundam arcade games helped smooth the deal.
"The project began when Ono and his staff shared the idea with CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto Tsujimoto and software development head Keiji Inafune, who said that they should all go meet Namco Bandai. They ended up having no hurdles even at the top levels," reads the translated report.
We know Street Fighter stalwarts Ryu and Chun-Li, and Tekken favourites Kazuya and Nina, will be in the game. Ono's thinking about putting early generation characters from each franchise into the game.
The basics of eight-way lever and six button input system will remain, but Ono wants to add an "assist" feature.
He said the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV has the answer: a feature that lets players feel they're able to do tough moves.
Apparently the development staff working on each game have agreed not to share information. Ono joked that the Namco Bandai team would be none-the-wiser if the Capcom designers made Nina appear in the game naked, and likewise for Chun-Li in the other version. He also joked that they're interested in seeing which version will get rewarded a Platinum score in Famitsu. Scary stuff.
"We'd like to challenge one-another in all areas, including sales, and get fans of both series excited," said Ono.

I don't quite see how this will work unless each game converts the opposing characters directly into their style.
Coming soon:
- Sonic X Mario
- Halo X COD
- Burnout X Forza
- Bayonetta X God of War
