A good friend of mine is the manager in the local game shop. I get the games as soon as they arrive from the post office. Usually 3-5 days before release. Good to have the right friends :). Trust me the game is a 10/10. Only two concerns: The last Boss is uncharming and cheap as hell. The anime cutscenes arent charming at all unlike Naruto for example. Minor concerns as the gameplay is 100% perfect. I use the 360 d-pad and almost win every ranked match i play. Still going to try to get hold of the SFIV pad though.

im playing it in medium hard and seth is not THAT cheap.i can defeat him without continues with my hori ex2 stick.gill of street fighter 3 third strike is way CHEAPER.seth is a good boss!also the game rocks.the perfect mixture of third strike and super turbo!bravo capcom!

OK after a little taste.....

Not sure about the 10/10 TBH (not talking incorrect "perfection" 10/10 BTW, just real highest accolade etc 10/10), SF3 3rd Strike is a much better 2D fighter IMO..BUT..it's still an absolutely wicked fighter worthy of ANY fight fans pennies (except for Seth, way to kill the single player game completely - just like you did with Gill in SF3 Capcom).

SF4 does lack a little personality if you ask me (probably due to no character specific stages). Also (obviously not talking super moves), what is it with FLASHES and COLOUR in modern fighters? I don't need a rainbow for effect - just hit the bastard!

Oh and is it me or does 4 move....just a little....like EX....

Anyway gripes aside, great character animation (when you can see it through the flashes and colour!), great game mechanics (although TBH I can see some fans not liking it), online doesn't seem to work that well for me at the mo (360) but I'm sure it will be just a addictive as SSF2THDR gameplay wise 4 is sound, if a little different.

Well done Capcom great game, had some big shoes to fill and 4 wears them well. Not exactly swept of my feet but I'm sure thanks to MP this game will last me until SSF4THDRZX81C64BOOB comes out, but the review does makes me even more wary of EG "reviews" 10/10 heh...

How on Earth can anyone say that 3s is better than this when IV has been out here for -2 days?!

From my day's play with the game today, it really feels like the 10/10 is going to prove to be well deserved.

Woohoo it plays like 3rd Strike!

Played for a few hours last night, got my arsed kicked online, played 5 ranked matches and didn't win. However I did win a "player match". Spent a bit of time learning the moves in the trial mode, Also played arcade mode and it's quite tough, even on the lower difficulties. Won't even attempt hardest yet. I'm a bit underwhelmed at the moment, but I think that's because i'm shit at fighting games and really wanted to be good at this, but i'll keep practising.

I started off with chung-li, she seems a bit shit (although probably just me) so i'll have a bash tonight and change character.

Ultra moves are cool, very easy to pull off, I assigned the HK-MK-LK to one of the triggers and can pull it off 9 times out of 10 when needed.

I (heart) shop.to for delivering early!

I really need a Stick though - the controller didn't cut it. Its difficult to do focus dash cancels with the controller.

The One-hit focus/parry makes it more interesting than the 'inifinite' parrying of 3s - makes it a lot more strategic.... Although severely missing air parrying. Especially for turtling shorykeners and flashkickers. Still, nothing a doubledash and throw/double-dash-focus can't solve.

Chun-Li plays almost exactly like her 3rd Stike counterpart, which makes her a pretty powerful player...

I beat Seth on hardest with M. Bison, after realising that Capcom (as per tradition) have opted for a cheap boss. Cheap Bosses are best defeted using cheap tactics you would otherwise never use on a normal player - e.g. Fierce Psycho Crusher, down+Fierce repeat, rinse, recycle.

Not very flashy but it gets the job done.

@Ranger101 - Maybe I should stick with her then, nice1 for beating Seth on hardest lol, might try it out for a laugh! Haven't really played a beat em up for years, although loved SFII on SNES. Bought the game as it seemed good for people like me, haven't played for years so basically i'm a newcomer.

Just have to put some more time in to get better. One thing I tried last night was the cancelling moves on the trial mode, think it was to do a high kick then a another kick (can't remember) but couldn't get the combo to progress.

Is there trophy support on PS3?

but man how i wish my stick would turn up, almost tempted to wait till tomorrow, this game just aint designed for one of the worst d-pads ever made. Still i know im gonna play it the second i finish work.

Yeah man Soul Calibur you can get away with using the pad, i can kick ass against the best stick users on that.

not sure why anyone would compare a fighter on the DC that people spent ages learning over a game that's technically not even out over here yet?

Bar a few tweeks It's been the same game..well since forever! I had a good chunk of play yesterday and tried all the characters out.

I breath this series so I know how every version/series plays and with every release I can tell how it compares (as I'm sure many big fans can).

Besides I don't know why everyone's on me - Like I said 4 is awesome! I just think the review is a little too eager and 3rd Strike plays better.

Been playing this all day and can safely say that this is pure fighting perfection.

A note to anyone who has ordered a Standard Fight Stick - I've been using this all day and it works a treat. I'm not tournament standard and this does the job excellently - a load of moves that would have been nigh on impossible for me with a gamepad can be pullled off pretty easily.

I also have a Hori EX2 and for me this beats it hands down (which is saying something.)

The only downer is the main theme song - where in the hell did they dig that up from - it sounds like a song David Hasselhoff will write if he ever enters Eurovision

You need to give IV a fair shot before you will know for sure if the new systems and new characters make it a better or worse game than 3s.

I fail to see howanyoen can rate this 10/10 until they patch the lobbies so you can watch others fight, I believe this is called "coin mode"

Other than that the game is perfect, sure I could complain that it would be even more awesome if you could save/upload replays but for now this game is nothign short of perfect...apart from the online lobby thing

Not me, I knew after one day with it 3rd strike was the greatest 2D fighter ever that somehow managed to topple 2 as king!

As great as 4 is, and it is a great fighter (well like conners said except for that intro theme - yuck!), I reckon we still have our old king (I'm talking gameplay wise obviously - not features like online etc). Feel free to disagree though....

Anyway who cares, we all have our best game doesn't stop SF4 being great!

I'm impressed with the zero load time on the PS3 after an install. Got my Tournament Edition arcade stick too. It's fucking massive. It shits on the Hori Fighting Stick 3 and it's solid.

The game was perfect unti i reached seth....WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT , WHAT A BLOODY CHARACTER he is ever more annoying than Gill.....They could keep Bison for final boss not a fucking freak....

Anw the game though is nice Street fighter is back indeed and i enjoyed it even if the final boss is a mess and i cant wait foreven more characters to kick this Seth's bloody ass with different style lol

The game is already suffering from missing some form of air-parry/air-focus.... against the benchmark of SF3, it loses a point there. A small point.

After playing with the new characters, I can see the KoF references... but they're pretty well developed, and surprisingly, Rufus is a pretty decent character, but Abel goes one better and actually manages to Trump Alex from sf3.

Thats true about Rufus i wasnt expecting him to be that good but to be honest when i first deal with him he wiped my ass lol.

MVC2 i read is supposed to be out on XBLA later this year, could be BS tho.

the rest of the game is pure liquid gold.
absolutely fantastic apart from Mr Cuntfish the endboss. beautiful, has japanese voice options - apart from the shitty title song (probably written by Cuntfish no doubt), plays fast and furious, and will sit on my shelf proudly.
