Street Fighter IV dated for PS3/360 News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

14 November, 2008

"Let the countdown commence," Capcom Europe said this evening as it confirmed that Street Fighter IV will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 20th February 2009.

The console versions of Yoshinori Ono's 2D re-beat-'em-up have been hotly tipped in light of near universal acclaim for the arcade version, which came out in Japan this year.

Unconfirmed reports point to a 25-strong character roster for the console versions, and Capcom is known to have worked its little socks off to translate the game's accessible-but-deep controls to the console pads.

Speaking to Eurogamer when we played and previewed Street Fighter IV earlier this year, producer Ono admitted that the pads were an ongoing challenge, but judging by the positive response to the game at the Eurogamer Expo last month - where you voted the game into the top five - it's gone well.

Street Fighter IV's late February release also cements a strong first quarter for Capcom, which is already gearing up to release Resident Evil 5 on the competing console platforms on 13th March.

However, there's currently no word on a release date for the previously announced PC version of Street Fighter IV.

Sweet - thoroughly enjoyed this @ E2. I've even purchased a HORI stick to avoid having to use the 360 d-pad.

PC version was surely a fluke. Someone must've accidentally slipped that on the press release. Who releases a fighting game on the PC?

Cool, I was expecting this later than that. SSF2HDR will keep me busy until then :)

Seeing as there's 2 SF games in the coming year, I will consider an arcade stick. Presuming they are under £35, of course.

I picked my Hori stick up from Amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Officially-...

I had a look round on-line & once you factored in shipping it was the cheapest I could find. Haven't had a chance to try it out properly yet as I've had too many other gaming distractions but its definitely an obvious improvement to the d-pad!

I must say that nowadays whenever i hear that an old-skool beat-em-up is coming to the 360, I dread having to play it because the d-pad really has a mind of its own. In my experience, for example, i want to go left so I have to press the very left edge of the d-pad to do what i want it to do. I may have to buy a HORI stick.

word of warning concerning the hori ex2 stick, one of the buttons on mine stopped registering consistantly after repeated use, heard it can be quite a common problem. i think i'm going to spend a bit of extra cash and get me a proper stick as i'm missing vf5 big time and with the 2 sf2 games coming out i definitely need to sort it out.

@ dudefella - you do realise most people play street fighter and KOF games on an Arcade system and then second- the PC right? Go onto GGPO or 2DF and you'll see absolutely 1000s of people still playing SF3. And since they're the hardcore audience too, do you really thin kthey'll all use a keyboard set up? No- people will use their gamepads or most likely their arcade sticks. Seeing as the SFIV machines are actually PCs. I don't see why they shouldn't release it on the platform. I can guarantee now, the SFIV scene will last longest on PC.

I'll be getting all 3 anyway.

I think there's not going to be a PC version. It would be sad because the game looks fantastic, but in marketingterms it wouldn't really be a smart choice. Who has ever bought a beat 'em up for the PC?!

Er...Apart from Tekken, Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur- all fighters are on PC....King of Fighters XII will be, all past KOFs have been, Street Fighters have been and so has Guilty Gear. Besides, Capcom have a multiplatform policy now = all their games will be on all major platforms.
