Street Fighter film pics break site News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Retro
News by Robert Purchese

9 April, 2008

The first storyboard images from the upcoming Street Fighter movie have caused quite a stir.

Such a stir, in fact, the official website has had to limit access to authorised users with passwords.

The pictures showed Chun Li, played by Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame, narrowly dodging volleys of bullets from would-be assailants. You can still see these on Kotaku.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is to be released next year to tie-in with the 20th anniversary of the game.

Romeo Must Die and Doom director Andrzej Bartkowiak will be behind the wheel, with enormous mouse-healing Green Mile actor Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog, and soppy but sporty American Pie star Chris Klein as Nash.

Weird Black Eyed Peas member Taboo will play Vega, Die Another Day baddie Rick Yune will be Gen, and Minority Report friend-turned-foe Neal McDonough will be M. Bison.

Apparently Jean-Claude Van Damme was approached, but turned down the opportunity to reprise his Guile role from the 1994 film because he is being more careful when picking parts.

Why would a storyboard sketch have everyone all excited? Am I missing something here?

What?

Seriously?

Or was that paragraph just an excuse for that GIF?

Chun Li isn't a legend, she's annoying. Very very annoying.

Actually in the original movie my favorite moment is the confrontation between her and bison which goes like this:

Chun Li: [after a partularly long winded and boring rant] My father saved his village at the cost of his own life. You had him shot as you ran away. A hero at a thousand paces!
Bison: I'm sorry... I don't remember any of it.
Chun Li: You don't remember?
Bison: For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday.

Raul Julia was the best thing in that movie god rest him.

I think you'll find that classic clip is from the god of kung fu cheese that is Kickboxer - best dancing ever! :)

Waffleaber: It's true; that bit of dialogue is actually quite good, and as such constitutes a massive anomaly within the context of that film. They made Dhalsim a doctor, for God's sake.

If you want a prep course on why Chun Li is a legend, though, I recommend that you seek out Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, which showcases her strength as a commanding, fiercely independent and charismatic warrior, breaking down societal constraints to emerge as a truly inspiring female role model for our times. And getting her knockers out.

Someone ought to let them know that Kristin Kreuk is not anywhere near Chinese enough for this role.

Anybody ever noticed that Tong Po is dancing right next to Van Damme?
He looks weird with hair, but it's definitely him!

@mcwildcard

Michel Quissi AKA Tong Po is actually Van Dammes best friend in real life. He also starred in Bloodsport as Suan Paredes with hair.

The clip is from Breakin starring Van Damme and Michel Quissi. So yes it is Tong Po dancing next to him.

The clip is deffo not Kickboxer. My brain will never be able to erase his acted, drunken, gyrate-o-dance performance in Kickboxer.

Ever.

I think Bad09 is reffering to the link posted by nickthegun. Thats taken from kickboxer. The link in the article is from Breakin for sure.

Some people post comments without reading the article. Very annoying.
