Stranglehold demo soon

Midway says early August.

Midway expects a demo for Stranglehold to be available on Xbox 360 and PC in early August.

It will give you a chance to try out the heady dose of action created in collaboration with Hollywood director John Woo and starring actor Chow Yun-Fat.

But unfortunately Midway wasn't available to tell us exactly when we'll see it, or when PS3 owners will get their hands on it.

We've had a good look at Stranglehold in the past weeks, and you can find our first impressions and dedicated Eurogamer TV episode (also featuring Ellie shooting real guns) elsewhere on the site.

Stranglehold is due for release across all formats on 7th September.

Lovely... I like these try-before-you-buy demos as recently I've saved a lot of money after playing them, being less than impressed and deciding to cancel my pre-order! ;)

    this better be good

wonder if the UE3 went well for this game too.

I wouldn't mind having the blu-ray version of Hard Boiled. It'd better have a decent transfer to beat all the other crappy dvd versions out already.

    Woo - want this

This game looks like Max Payne 3 in all but name. I'm not sure whether the game offers enough to keep me playing it. The videos I've seen certainly look exciting and action-packed but that's just based on 5 minutes of footage. Will the game quickly get repetitive just doing the same things over and over again, level after level, no matter how spectacular it all looks? I can't help thinking this is a game that looks more exciting to watch than play... :?

Sadly, this may mark the last collaboration between John Woo and Chow Yun Fat, since Chow has quit Woo's period epic, Red Cliff, in a big old huff.

This is totally my kind of game. Absolutely loved Max Payne so can't wait. Environments look far more varied than Mr Payne too.

I reckon the game will get slated a little in reviews though for being too linear, but I like linear so that's fine.

really looking forward to the demo

Nice that this gets a demo. It needs one to be honest, as I've been unsure about it from day one. The next-gen Max Payne-isms and that fact it's a sequel to the brilliant Hard Boiled are obvious good points. But then it's made by Midway......

Can EG do a Sony article that investigates these 2 points: a) why aren't first-party titles 1080i compatible, although 99% of third-party are and b) why the PSN has so few demos/content..?

Or should I write this to 'Contact'?

    "August 8th."

    Confirmed...?

I'm interested in this game, but with so many decent 360 titles on the way it may be hard to justify this purchase.... maybe the demo will convince me otherwise!

BTW, like Darren I find that most games I demo get taken off the pre-order list. DiRT and Dead Rising, I think, being the only exceptions.
  • optimusprym8 #15 5 years ago

hmm with the earlier suggestion that this game is incredibly short, am guessing the demo will be too :D

    "confirmed?"

Closest we have, though I've still to find an official announce by Midway...I think an over-eager moderator blurted something out.

"BTW, like Darren I find that most games I demo get taken off the pre-order list. DiRT and Dead Rising, I think, being the only exceptions. "

I'm the opposite really. Most of the time when I play a demo of a highly anticipated game, the game usually ends up on my pre-order list. DiRT, Blue Dragon and Lost Planet being the only exceptions as ones I then avoid.
Which is why I feel this game needs a demo probably more than any of the other hyped games out this year, as it's the one I'm most unsure about.

@ Machetazo - Cheers. Just seen latest issue of OXM and they're advertising a demo of Stranglehold next issue... would definitely make sense for it to be on market place before then like all the other demos on their discs.... which also begs the question as to why I've kept a subscription going... oh dear! :/

@ SomaticSense - LOL! Think you and I have just shown that online demos do work for the consumer; stops us buying games we don't like, even if our tastes seem a little different :0)

Off topic - 10/10 for Bioshock in OXM. May live up to the hype after all....

Demos are definitely without doubt a good idea. So many of the games in my collection would've been skipped if it wasn't for playing the relevant demo. I seriously considering getting C+C3 and Flatout once the Autumn/Winter games rush is over, both are games I would never have thought of buying before.

Plus, they allow me to leave crap like Bionicle Heroes, Ace Combat, and DiRT (controversial, I know...) on the shop shelves.

Downloadable gamedemos for consoles are nearly the best thing about this new generation. I've tried out so many games I was eagerly anticipating only to realise I didn't like them. Saved me some money there, oh yes. But it works the other way around as well.

Stranglehold becomes the first PS3 region-locked game:

*edit* not clear if other platforms are region free or not, looks like they are but wait and see.
