Stranglehold demo on PSN

But no Haze despite rumour.

Sony has smothered the PlayStation Store in Thursday, covering it in new content.

Well, we say new, but we're not sure how happy you will be with your solo demo of Stranglehold. A rumour was floating around that Haze was going to join it, but it seems to have been little more than gossip.

Still, those of you with a PlayStation Eye can grab the new Mesmerize visualisation thing. It costs GBP 1.99 and lets you wave your limbs about to effect in-game vistas, like making spring to life or twin neon trails twist about.

MotorStorm has got more new bits and bobs, too - this time a fancy Big I Bunny and Numskull livery pack for GBP 1.49. Dress-up for cars and motorbikes and buggy things, then.

Elsewhere there are videos for the excellent and freshly reviewed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Everyday Shooter and Blazing Angels 2. Oh, and a TV commercial as well as a trailer for new Pixar film Wall-E.

So the Euro PS Store finally gets Stranglehold a month or so after the US? I'm sure I played the PS3 demo ages ago... :?

If Haze is coming today, it's far more likely to appear on the US PS Store first and that isn't normally updated until later on tonight/early tomorrow morning.
  • urban #3 4 years ago

haze won't come today..or any other day this month.

Poor PSN day actually, you would have thought they've have something special up their sleeves to take our minds of a certain game....

    Yes, since last week, iirc.

i think there should be a sequel to Sega Superstars, called "Playstation Eye for the Sega Guy".

    just me then?
  • Machetazo #9 4 years ago

That's Mesmerize (trace), not Mesmerize (distort), which was on there already.
  • Arwin #10 4 years ago

Ah Macheto, thanks, I was already wondering ...

Could be interesting to see if the EU demo of Stranglehold is different from the US version.
  • nailerr #11 4 years ago

I honestly wish they would just not bother, be honest and say "We have nothing worth posting, sorry".

It would really be better than this weekly update of nothing. It would actually not be so bad if they just updated with little things daily instead of this Thursday night crap.
I remember when Xbox Live was this bad, no one wants that again.

I'd love to know how many people pay £1.49 for some additional in-game textures (Motorstorm). Same goes for people who pay for Themes etc from XBox Live (at least you get to see your Theme on a regular basis though I guess).

frod, Galaxy of course, but i reckon you knew that! ;)

I think Sony keep shooting themself in the foot keeping up with this Thursday update trend. Everybody is 90% of the time let down on Thursday, expecting some big weekly update. They should just put up content when it's ready, then they'd be no 'Thursday-is-the-big-day' expectations.

"a trailer for new Pixar film Wall-E"

    Huh? where?

Until things improve, PS3 owners should just use US PSN for demos and purchaseable contents on Euro PSN. Why bother with downloading demos weeks or months after debuts in US?

GO there first, Strangehold and Uncharted are cases in point, I never bother with US Live Marketplace as demos are in Europe on same day usually (been the case for a year or more).

Seem in 2008 should be far better.
  • AZA #18 4 years ago

that update is pathetic, what are SCEE playing at?

Theres no excuse for the Uncharted Demo not be on the EU store now surely?

Ooh, another kick in the nuts for Sony...And deservedly so.

Lots of people agree with you there and are equally critical.

I really do feel for PS3 owners...I have decided to stick with my PS2 and PSP S&L for now.

I just don't want to subscribe to Sony's "debacle" this time around.

heres hoping next thursdays offering includes the divx playback software, and the haze demo, PSN store is getting there, just very slowly. I would really like them to change the UI from browser style to something a bit more speedy to use a'la xblmp.

I am a bit of a n00b with the ps3, but I created a US account last night for drakes demo- are sony as "nip arse" as microsoft on this issue?
  • Kenshin001 #21 4 years ago

@zedzee, you are posting on both ThreeSpeech and EG about the PS3 but you don't have a PS3. Don't you think that is a bit of a waste of time?
  • Shrui #22 4 years ago

"@zedzee, you are posting on both ThreeSpeech and EG about the PS3 but you don't have a PS3. Don't you think that is a bit of a waste of time?"

I think its fair enough. If I hadn't bought the PS3 earlier this year then I'd be currently swaying between that and a 360 about now. When brand loyalty comes into it then it becomes tougher. Like others in the thread on TS I've been a playstation owner in some form or other for ages which is why I stuck with the PS3. Since April I have never felt so let down as a customer.

At the moment its an easy choice even despite the reliability issues of the 360.

Zedzee is a potential customer, and thats who Sony need to woo right now. I've spent my money, as much as I'd love to I can't afford to get a 360 now. I'm in the bag as far as Sony are concerned. Now they need the rest and anyone watching from the sidelines must be watching the circus of the last 6 months and will be making a clear choice which way to go right now.

So folk like me can keep shouting to either get Sony to take action or at least offer some perspective to the rest considering it. Folk like Zedzee can let Sony know their money is going elsewhere unless they sort themselves out.

Hmmmm, soon my PS3 with partial BC may be worth a few bob on ebay, certainly enough to cover the cost of a 360 and some games!
  • Big_Cheese #23 4 years ago

What the f*** are you people talking about?

Ok, the update might not be a great one but there's no reason to whine about it.
Oh, and whoever wants to sell his PS3 for a 360, should get their heads examined.
  • Shrui #24 4 years ago

    @Big_Cheese

There is no way any EU customer can be happy about the treatment we've received.

If you don't complain then as far as anyone is concerned we're happy to sit here and be shafted week on week and Sony will continue to do so and rake in the cash.

At least lets see if we can get some lube! ;)
  • levis #25 4 years ago

Yes the update is a bit shit this week, but is it anything to get angry about? People expect too much, thats all.
  • Jos #26 4 years ago

I don't the anger either - I was looking through my downloads last night and had 30 demos from the uk store.

That seemed pretty good to me.

And I get why they want to link release schedules with demo releases - to maintain interest about a game.

People getting irate about not getting things they weren't promised...

And by the way. Where the hell is my flying car made of candy floss. Waaaaaaah!!!
  • levis #27 4 years ago

My thoughts exactly. Go through the Store and see all the videos, demo's and full games that have been released since March, it's quite a lot actually.
Also, people should chill out when they hear a 'rumour' that a particular demo 'may' appear and then it doesn't. It's like reading the BBC's football gossip column and then being upset when Ronaldinho doesn't go to Bolton!

I wait until Pain arives, that will rock the house for a decent price I'm sure........

The Stranglehold demo itself, hmm, I was sure to 90% I will pick this up, but after playing the demo yesterday, there is no way I will pay money for it, don't get mewrong, it aint worse then a lot of these games coming out, but with Rachet and Clank, Unchartet and Asassins Creed, there is no room for some 0815 shooter.
I can't really discribe what is bad, but it just didn't feel right while playing it..........
