Steam downtime planned later this week

Should only last three hours or so.

A new message on the Steam website has revealed service downtime is planned later this week.

"Beginning at 6pm Pacific time Thursday February 4th, we will be performing software maintenance on some Steam servers," the message reads. "We expect the resulting downtime to last three hours at most, putting the end of the window at 9pm Pacific time." That's 10am - 1pm UK time.

"Some Steam services will be offline during this time. Affected services will include the Steam Community, in-game matchmaking or lobbies, downloading games from Steam content servers, and making purchases from the Steam store." However, you should still be able to play games which don't rely on Steam matchmaking services.

So there you go.

    3 hours! Bloody disgrace that is, time to sue. Oh wait, I'm not a sad Amercian so not actually bothered about downtime...

    Of course if it was a competing service that announced it, it would truly be a disgrace.

    Your Pacific to GMT conversion needs a lot of work.

    6PM Pacific is 2AM GMT. So the downtime is 2AM to 5AM GMT on Friday morning.

    that's pretty weak that all those users will have their games taken away. this is why steam needs some actual competition. valve is getting complacent.

    @Lin

    "Taken away"? What are you talking about? They can still play.

    More of a pain for the Americans than us of course. Surprised they're doing this at 6PM rather than 6AM PST.

    Anyone know if the friends list is considered to be part of the Steam Community now?

    Shut the hell up, this isn't an issue i have NEVER been affected by Steam down time, infact this is the first time i have ever really heard of it going down and they have the politeness to tell you in advance and a couple of people moan lol some people are funny.

    No doubt a couple of yanks will kick up a fuss though eh bad09
