First hour of far cry 2 is good then you realise that every mission follows the same pattern and then it just becomes are long boring slog to the end. Then you discover there's another part to the map and it has exactly the same missions all over again. Then when you get to the actual end it's the only half interesting mission in the entire game and that's because it's actually about shooting not travelling halfway across the map then travelling back.

I enjoyed it for the most part, it just had one or two glaring flaws. The checkpoint respawn is like a big brown smear on clean white linen. And the voiceactingonamphetamineswasjust....odd. But still, it was an amazing virtual world they created.

A silenced shotgun? REALLY? Has there ever been a silenced shotgun in real life? Still, maybe worth a bash.

Far Cry 2 did have huge flaws (and they're the same ones that everyone cites, making me wonder why the devs didn't acknowledge them too).

Despite that, something about the game just grabbed me. I thought did a fantastic job with atmosphere, and sailing down the river at night fully decked out with stealth gear was lotsafun. It was actually one of my favourite games of last year, but as I'm a pauper/tabloid scaremonger/communist*, I won't be buying the DLC.

They'll never fix the game design flaws as the producer has said that that is how they wanted the game to be. So they're not flaws they're design regardless of whether everone hates the game because of them. Fix them and i'll start buying the DLC, until then sod off Ubi! Steam or no Steam!

I just found the whole mechanics of actually just shooting someone so much more difficult than it should be in an FPS...

WTF Silenced Shotgun?

Do those even exist? O_o

Talk about overpowered . . .

Probably won't get it, but I did love the game. As soon as I get my new PC I'm probably going to play through it again just to savour it looking better than it does on this current rig. No other game I've played except for its bastard cousin Crysis [which I enjoyed more, in retrospect] has given me the sense of freedom that FC2 did; for example, I could scout around for a hang-glider and glide in under the cover of darkness, picking off outlying targets with the silenced MP5, finding what I need and then set fire to a huge swathe of grassland or jungle as I use my Desert Eagle to punch a hole to a jeep, covering me from any pursuers. I did actually take the effort to do that once, and it was fun, but too often you can simply get the biggest ass guns you can find [M249, D-Eagle, AR-10] and run in blowing shit up without a care in the world.

Hrm... 3.99 for FarCry2 itself is asking a bit much, let alone DLC :/
