StarCraft II closed beta invites sent out
Wings around the world.
Blizzard has started sending out invitations to the StarCraft II closed multiplayer beta.
"Thousands of gamers" have received them, according to the publisher (and according to my inbox - woo!), with recipients being sent codes and then invited to log in via eu.battle.net to activate them.
"Gathering concentrated feedback from our players is an important step for us as we head into the final stretch of development for StarCraft II and the new Battle.net service," said Mike Morhaime, Blizzard's CEO and co-founder.
"We look forward to having our players' help in polishing the overall experience and preparing for launch."
If you haven't received an invitation though, you can at least learn oodles about the game through our numerous hands-on previews and interviews and Blizzard Battle Reports, which show off multiplayer games in amazing detail.
Check out Battle Reports three
and four
over on Eurogamer TV.
StarCraft II is made up of three games, the first of which, Wings of Liberty, is currently down for release in the first half of 2010.

Stop looking at everyone's 'guesses' at the date and making it sound like fact, with Cataclysum being in production before Wrath was even released it's more then likely Cata is an easter release and SCII the summer release at minimum, because with blizzard knowing exactally when and how Wrath was going to end plus the fact Cata is probly 'done' already, it's highly unlikly WoW's got 6 months ahead of 'nothing' and we've got another Illiden/Sunwell issue again..
as for the SCII questions - No there is no sub with either Battle.net or SCII itself thats only with WoW atm to play the game, even if you don't play WoW it's more then likely the cross-game comms is still free.
As for the microtransactions yes Blizzard already said there will be, in the form of player created content where Blizz/the creator (forgot which) set a price and the creator gets money back from the sale, essentally allowing players to make another DoTA and make money off it without needing to got the the lenght the orginal games did to make their own game.
