Star Wars cartoon game for Wii, DS News

Wii DS News by Robert Purchese

30 May, 2008

LucasArts appears to be working on a Star Wars game for Wii and DS based on the upcoming animated film.

According to IGN the proof can be found in the manual for LEGO Indiana Jones, which has a picture of Anakin and Obi-Wan and the promise of a "fall 2008" release.

However, European distributor Activision was unavailable to comment, and our copy of the game has no such promotional page in the booklet.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is due out in cinemas across the UK this August. It's based on the battles that happened between episodes two and three, and will form a series telling the tale from a number of perspectives.

We think it looks rather good. Do you, Eurogamer reader?

On a slightly unrelated/related note... the film looks terrible, not in terms of the art style... it just looks like George Lucas trying to milk the Star Wars cash cow when there isn't any milk left. Because the cow is dead.

Lets hope they actually try and make decent use of the Wii controls this time rather the tacked on stuff from Lego Star Wars and Force Unleashed.

..and I really don't know why they keep doing stuff with the shitty prequels. A series set after Return of the Jedi would be far more interesting.

re: the actual movie: If it's anything like the 2D Clone Wars series then it should be good. The trailer doesn't look too bad.

The new Clone Wars series looks amazing IMO. A unique art direction and great action scenes that look like the prequels? Yes please. Now if only they could somehow emulate the magic of the classic trilogy, which was sadly missing from the prequels.
Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to it and I disagree with M83J01P7 (bloody hell, that took long to type). I reckon there is plenty more milk to suckle out from the teats of the Star Wars Universe.

More prequel gubbins with this film. I'd wish for more Classic Trilogy or even a sequel, but you just know Lucas would make Jar Jar a Jedi or something. I can only shudder what the live-action telly series is gonna be like. "Storm comin' Ani. Gertcha!"

But people seem to be forgetting the film is written exclusively by George Lucas... he wrote prequels, remember those?

Both the 2D clone wars series and the new one are written by other writers, so yes, they have hope... I just don't hold up much for the film which basically introduces a lot of stories/characters that have no impact and what follows in term of narrative.

I know this makes me 2 dimensional myself, but animated movies leave me cold. I haven't enjoyed a cel-shaded game since... Okami?

To me it looks like the Pre-viz team have been given the green light to produce some output for the public to see.

"I reckon there is plenty more milk to suckle out from the teats of the Star Wars Universe."

That is possibly the most chilling and disturbing sentence I have ever read. And yet somehow also funny.

I'm interested in this. A Star Wars game developed exclusively on Wii is what is needed. The Clone Wars is a good time to set an action game, too.

For me George Lucas needs to start leaving well alone. I thought the Star Wars prequels were at best average while the new Indiana Jones film ruined what was a class trilogy and nearly made me cry!

I hope you're being ironic Eurogamer, because how the hell can you tell how good a game's going to be by an advert that doesn't even show screenshots?

Let me tell you how - it's coming out Autumn of this year (just a few months from now), it hasn't even been officially announced yet let alone any screenshots or anything being released, it won't be on the good-graphics consoles, and The Force Unleashed has occupied so much of LucasArts' time that they're not working on the proper Indiana Jones game but they still somehow had time to make this Clone Wars tie-in. Oh, and quick-buck tie-in games are universally rubbish.

In short - no, it does not look good.

hmm... not sure what to make of this, it seems like it will be another crappy film tie in game. But the film looks alright.
