Star Ocean 4 gets firm Euro date

The Last Hope for 360 in early June.

Square Enix has announced that Star Ocean: The Last Hope will be released exclusively for Xbox 360 on 5th June.

The sci-fi RPG launched in February across Japan and America and picked up solid recommendations: Metacritic averages critical opinion at 78 per cent.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the first game in the series to appear on the new generation of consoles, and introduces a more team-orientated, four-character battle system. Edge Maverick, the guitar-playing-Hollywood-pilot hero, can also control his spaceship and land on at least five other planets.

    Game likes to crash. That is never good but when there is easly 2 hours from save to save it is horrible.
  • Petulant_Radish #4 3 years ago

    Is there that long bewteen saves? Oh for the love of god.

    well after the crash athon that was my 360 playing lost odysey losing up to an hour of progress at a time i will hold out and hope for a PS3 verison if it really is 2 hours between save points.

    Nooooooooooooo, your joking.. oh balls.

    I was really enjoying this game, didn't mind the save's that much... until disc 4, 1 hour to get to big boss only to lock up at least 4 times... never finished it.

    Is it better than SO3?

    That started alright but I rapidly lost interest in it (found a move which spammed my way to victory in most fights... leaving the game feeling shallow and empty).

    @Ashen-Shugar:

    Please tell me you're joking. Infinite Undiscovery was appalling. Quite literally one of the worst JRPGs I've ever played (and I've played a lot).

    The best JRPG I've played on the 360 so far is Lost Odyssey, without a doubt (didn't crash once for me, though I've known it to happen to other people). This will probably change when I finally get my hands on Tales of Vesperia, though.

    Lost Odyssey did my nuts in with the save points, I kept thinking there’ll be one soon…and then two hours later I’d get out of a long boss fight thinking there’ll be one soon, but no! I think it was that Temple of Enlightenment. Good game mind.

    I think UI is a marmite title, I have RPG loving friends who think that’s one of the best around, and others who think it’s basically a massive turd sat on a pile of bigger turds in the middle of a shit storm.

    @redneon

    Ive played quite a few JRPGS but IU was FF7 compared to the Last Remnant...... now that really was a turkey!!
  • andywilkie35 #12 3 years ago

    I thought Infinite Undiscovery was absolutely fabulous. My only problem with it was it was a bit short for my liking, but from what was there it was a great game.

    Amazon sent my Star Ocean walkthrough to me a couple of weeks ago so I've been having glimpses at it whilst trying not to spoil it for myself.

    I can't see Eurogamer giving this anything more than 6/10 considering they gave IU 6 and Blue Dragon (which I completed two days ago) 5/10 but from the reviews I've read I can't see this not being my game of the year....until Tales that is!
  • andywilkie35 #13 3 years ago

    Also in the reviews I've read there isn't much need for grinding unless you actually want to grind. I happen to like a bit of grinding if there are extra skills/abilities etc to unlock so I for one hope there is a need to

    That's one way of describing it, one I agree with mind.

    I though Lost Odyssey was quite good but nothing on the 360 has really impressed me as far as JRPG's go. I was looking forward to Tales of Vesperia but now that they are releasing a superior PS3 version I'll wait for that.

    I’ll be bloody well grinding, I love grinding. It’s grindtastic, grinding is grindtastic and I don’t care what anyone else says as I love grinding.
  • miiiguel #16 3 years ago

    I'd quote Petulant, there's a published guide for the game wich states 250 (two hundred and fif... ty!!!!) hours to full completion.
  • Scimarad #17 3 years ago

    They can keep it...
  • metallicorphan #18 3 years ago

    nice one Square...YOU DUMBASSES!!!!...June???...the same month as Batman, the same month as Ghostbusters, the same month as Battlefield 1943....the same month as Sacred 2.....same month as Tales Of Vesperia..arrrgghhh....this is worse than Halloween just gone!!

    as for JRPGs...Lost Odyssey is one of the best i have played for a long time(it never crashed for me either),however i loved Infinite Undiscovery as well great game, and i also loved Blue Dragon...Last Remnant though was a massive let down for me

    All the fans of Star Ocean are waiting for the game on PS3 - someone tell SE this....
  • NegativeZero #20 3 years ago

    78% meta rating is far too high for this. It's seriously not very good. The character models are overly detailed to the point that they have a creepy realdoll look to them, the plot is straight out of bad science fiction anime, and on the technical level it's extremely phoned-in. I don't think I've ever played a multiple-disc JRPG before where you actually had to disc-swap when you moved between different areas. That alone practically screams that it was designed for PS3 and then given a hasty 360 port when MS arrived with some nice money hats.

    I think most of the Star Ocean fans have been reading the previews/impressions and have decided to wait and see if the NEXT SO is any good...
