Stalker gets the price for being the first shooter to sport a protagonist wearing a woolen pullover.

Holy cow, this really looks quite fantastic. Sorry, can't think of anything more original at the moment. This could be the best-looking FPS currently in development (*hint* *hint*).

Not at all, the screens DO look fantastic, don't they? I was just trying to provoke some comments on another FPS whose name I've momentarily forgotten.

Er, forget it...

The plants do look a bit flakey, but there's so many of them (trees, shrubs, grass everywhere), I can live with it. The best trees I've seen so far are in the 3D Mark Nature benchmark, and even those don't look anywhere close to real.

Yehh, the screen shots look great :)

When I got to see the FMV movie of this game, I couldn't stop watching it. I can't wait to play this game, and if they wanted, I would pay them for my copy now. ;)

Don't know what you're all blathering about, certainly looks the biz, if they can put a game in there amongst the gorgeous textures and moody outdoor environments this could be a cracker. It does look like those screens were taken from a system running a quad p4 with a super-duper gfx and more memory than a herd of elephants. Min spec 1Ghz with 64mb gfx and half gig mem I reckons.

A very strange choice for a license though - Being loosely based on an obscure (to non-movie buffs) film. Still, better than basing it upon Solaris I guess.

I would imagine it is obscure to "westerners", but its pretty well known in the East (the film that is).

So Lou, what's the storyline? ;)

It's about an alien artifact that seems to fulfil the wishes of the people who see it. The deeper question of the book is whether it's really something special, a present by the aliens for example, or whether they just made a "roadside" picnic on their trip through space, and the artifact is nothing more like, for example, what the ashes of a cigarette is to us humans.

Heh! ;-)

Er whoever posted these up seems to have slipped some random screenies from another FPS. I'm talking about the red one and the one next to it. I've been following this games progress for a while and I don't think they're from Stalker, unless its shots of really early stuff. Apologies if I'm mistaken.

Edit: OK I am mistaken, They are from that really early stuff they released. There I was trying to look all clever. Won't try that again.

It promises to be less structured in plot development than any other FPS in current development, the ones that get closest to a freeform structure are, in descending order Deus Ex: Invisible War, Far Cry and Thief 3.

What I'd really like (I don't know if that's an actual feature maybe) to have is a hut or house or something where you can store stuff, sleep a night, park the Lada in front of it, and use it as a base for the whole game, with maybe NPCs visiting or trying to raid you at night etc.

best thing is we don't have to choose we can have both! ray for PC!

the real difference between the games is the in-game transportation, choose between cranky Yugo/Trebant or tricked out beach buggy!

beach buggy please!

I hope this isn't the biggest difference, tbh. I think HL2 will be great, but linear (which is absolutely ok for an FPS), while I hope that Stalker is much more RPG-heavy, with many NPCs to interact and trade with, a very open level-design etc.

Another good thing is you can play through single player co-op with up to four mates apparently. A nice LAN, a couple of ninja PC's, Roger Wilco and a like minded house mate? I think this could be good. Halo proved co-op play can work like a charm, I want to see developers catching on to it. Its cool to be able to share all your single player experiences with a mate.

No idea about the house, but that's my understanding of the game. You even have to maintain the car, fill it up with petrol.

Another good thing is you can play through single player co-op with up to four mates apparently.

According to the last interview I read, that's not true. Its even better than that. This will have specific co-op gameplay, with specific endings (I highlighted that "s" for a reason :) ) not available in SP.

A friend of mine does Lada rally driving in Russia. They're actually not bad cars. They just don't have all the modcons. :)
