SSFII Turbo HD Remix still for 2008
Capcom is "on the home stretch".
Capcom has assured fans that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be released this year.
"We are on the home stretch," said Rey Jimenez, Capcom suit, on the official Street Fighter blog.
"We're basically closing out all the bugs that came up in the open beta and a few other open issues... We're on track to release the game this year and barring any unforeseen catastrophic event, that should not be changing."
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, a sultry PS3 and Xbox 360 remake of the classic beat-'em-up, is currently being fire-balled and spin-kicked by hordes of beta testers. Capcom wants all of the multiplayer bugs ironed out before launch.
The only way to join the testing is to buy Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 from Xbox Live.
More soon, hopefully.

Er...

it is called beat THEM up because you thrash a bunch of opponents (npcs). note the freaking plural.
1v1 fighting games are not beat em ups.

I play a character, fighting other characters. I am referred to as me or myself, and the other characters could be referred to as "them". A shortening of the word "them" can be "'em". I am beating the other characters up, therefore it is a "beat 'em up".
Strelok: In Soul Calibur IV, you have teammates you can swap in and out. Sometimes it's just you vs. 2-4 other opponents. Would these single battles be classed as "beat 'em ups" while the rest of the battles are classed as "fighters"? Discuss.

Apparently, not any more.
Me and my buddy bought Commando 3 the other day and we keep getting an error code when trying to access the beta...

He kept emphasising it like a tosser geek who you just wanted to twat across the face and watch his response.
Apologie, Blig_merk and smelly are all candidates for a 'twat then watch the response'. There really should be some method of interacting better than via text in these threads!
Electric shock button anyone?

I'm not sure I really buy the explanation, though. You still fight multiple opponents, just one at a time. When you play the 1vs2 dramatic battle mode in SFA3 does it become a beat-em-up? Is Warning Forever not a shoot-em-up, given that you only shoot at one enemy at a time?

they have evolved in different directions. beat em ups are nowadays usually disguised as "action adventures". while fighting games are pretty much frozen in time.

Personally though I'd have thought games like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon were called side-scrollers, but maybe i'm old fashioned.

Anyway HURRY UP Capcom FFS! After that you can start of SF3 3rd strike HDR.......

Bunch of new age charlies. It was a beat em up when it was first released on home consoles back in the early 90's. I should know, it cost me sixty fucking quid for my Snes copy!

on a personal note i am not keen on the cantonese style redrawn art-work. its worse than the original work and is a seriously cheeky way for capcom usa to drag on the coat-tails of this slightly worn-out part of the franchise.
i would also vote for SF3, though its true the characters are a little less charismatic.
...anyway, back to your slightly odd fighting game argument.
