wow, they really blend into the background dont they..
  • hulahoops #2 10 years ago

With faces like that they'd have difficulty blending into anything.
  • Gestalt #3 10 years ago

Well, I guess you can't please everyone...

On the one hand people spend thousands on new kit just so they can spooge over the latest advance in graphics without paying the slightest attention to how a game plays; on the other hand people dismiss out of hand a game that uses real actors because of its strange looks. I don't get it. Is high-polygonal ultra-pricey Doom III style photo-realism somehow more worthy of gamers' attention than, er, real realism??

    o_O etc

Heh heh - I see what you're getting at otto, but remember this :

Voice acting in games currently ranges in quality from 'utterly abysmal' to just 'mildly awful'. Putting real 'Z-List' actors in as well? You're asking for trouble. Remember, these are likely to be the guys who do radio adverts for a living, not Shakespearean thesps. We're talking 'Channel 5 movie' territory. :-)

The screenshots remind me of bad childrens television, btw. :-D

Well they'll all be speaking Swedish anyway so who cares? ;)

Anyway, this game could be a bag o' shite, it could be really good, who knows? It seems to be a bit different from the usual torrent of fps/x-treme sports nonsense, so that's already a mark in its favour, for me at least.
  • Whizzo #7 10 years ago

Maybe all the voice acting will be like the Swedish chef...
  • otto #8 10 years ago

Hey, that would be good! With subtitles. Excellent. That way we would escape the inevitably hideous English language version which would feature badly dubbed American accents.
  • Pirotic #9 10 years ago

but just look at it, it looks worse than the myst and 7th guest and they are all coming on 10 years old, also there is a distict lack of attractive females which might sound petty, but so are 90% of the games buying public.
  • otto #10 10 years ago

    (a) difficult to say whether it looks 'worse' than Myst/7th Guest on the basis of these screenshots alone, which are obviously just focussing on the character interaction aspect,

    (b) if this game is in the same league as Myst/7th Guest then that would be excellent, I can think of few games that I've played since that I've enjoyed as much as those two.
  • Blerk #11 10 years ago

Hey, I'm not petty! Shallow, maybe. But not petty. :-)

Oh my God - so you're to blame for those, otto! I demand your head on a plate before the end of the day. :-)

I must second pirotic here. The games brings back bad memories of the at that time hyped cinema/adventure hybrids which were, imo, horrible and showed a big misunderstanding of how a computer or videogame should function. But who knows? It might be good nonetheless. Though I also fear they will have used C-class actors, and I must state I'll always prefer a high-poly model to a bad actor.
  • otto #14 10 years ago

    Oh well... :)

/otto stands in corner on his own

Well four down on the right looks like she might be serviceable; if they hadn't stuck plastic all over her face.

The one on the right in the picture, that is, as opposed to the bulldog sucking piss off a nettle on the left.

    "Left-handed and with bushy eyebrows"

    Fucking classic! :D

Well, ME, for one - being Swedish and all. It was bad enough getting cheesy, dubbed voiceacting in Black & White... this could turn out to be totally awful.
Of course, there's also the possibility that it revolutionises adventure games... But If I'm to be honest, it looks too much like Phantasmagoria for me...
  • Gestalt #18 10 years ago

Actually it's all in English, but much of it spoken with a slight Swedish accent. The lousy acting all adds to the charm though. ;)
