Except, I've always had a problem with X's physics. It just doesn't seem like you're flying a space ship, it feels like 'jets in space'.

Well no space game has ever really given satisfactory physics to be honest, they are all either too simplistic (X, Wing Commander, Tachyon etc) or too hardcore (Elite: Final Frontier, Terminus).

What I want is something that could be real given futuristic propulsion methods. What I really hate is the concept of a 'top speed' (other than light) in space.

Have you tried I-War? Meant to be a corss between basic flight games (TIE Fighter, FreeSpace) and something bit more heavy going, like Frontier.

Never thought I'd see the day when someone (even indirectly) called X2 "simple" :D

I really liked X2 for the short time I was playing it. It was a bit slow to get off the ground, you had to spend too much time playing it to see much progress. That was my main gameplay complaint (standard combat-related complaints that we all share aside). What eventually made me stop playing was all the spelling and grammar errors. I'd started a mod to correct the whole lot of them (excepting some of the BBS posts which you could suspend disbelief for i.e. not everyone in the galaxy can write proper like), but that quickly got boring and I never went back to the game after that.

Nah, X2 is a pretty simple game, just very slow going.
As slow as it is though, I'm NEVER without things to do... Which is good I suppose. I stopped playing when I was no longer threatened though. Didn't even mange to own an M6. Well, i did, but didn't like it, so I reloaded.

Wow - looks like Babylon 5 on your PC. Anyone ever watch that? I saw the series with the spooky, invisible aliens. It was very good. Best sort of trekky-type series I've seen.
