Bit blocky for a next-gen title ...

Thank-god, someone who supports me on that. When I first saw it I thought it might be ok, but now it looks very dated. The same goes for Warcraft 3, which must have some incredible gameplay if it is taking this long.

Well, it's a long time off, so they might still rework their graphics.

Perhaps they should employ this technology in the game.

I've seen some screens from Cryteks upcoming games and they look incredible, There's one video with dinosaurs that made my jaw drop.

I doubt the graphics will change that much, based on Blizzards previous games, but that's not why I buy their stuff anyhow. Playability in spades.

looks good, i agree its rather dated, but with PC games you have to rate them more on style than polygon pushing power, as anybody can code the "best looking" PC game so long as they ramp the recommended system requirements high enough. you wont have to add the price of a new graphics card onto the retail-price anyway like most PC titles.

That crytek thing (re: old comment) looks like it just replaces polys that can never alter the outline of an object with bump mapping. Nothing amazing, but if it means more people start using bump mapping effectively it should brighten up some of the more lackluster games. Halo, for example, already seems to use bumpmapping quite extensively (at least, judging by the various renders of the main character, they do).

Is it just me, or are several duplicates present in the above set of screenshots?

Why battling? They could be dancing or playing cards or telling stories... or even better, they could play on their gameboys... (which is obviously the whole "thing" of playing MMMMMMMMORPGS :) )

We need a better acronym than "MMORPG". You could hurt yourself, saying that.

a demo of an MMORPG? how does that work then :P

Blizzard have always had extremely high standards and tend to take time in developing games, but now that the founders (Bill Roper?) have all left due to disagreements due to internal politics it doesn't bode well.

It's easy to lose track on this page. All four of those 'Bloke looking into the camera while green, glowy, rocky thing stands behind him' all point to a picture of some people trying to out-stare a building. Or something.

been beta testing this for a while now, its a very enjoyable MMORPG. one of the first which doesn't simply end up as a level grinding chore.

you'll be hard-pressed to find a 'good' free mmorpg. the graphics are very blocky but thats partly due to Blizzards style of artwork. Plus it means we can all crank the detail settings upto high.

you get quests, which normally take anything from 10 minutes to a day to complete. you get to pick a reward once completed and they tend to each have a sub-story you get to explore.

best of all, you get a decent amount of EXP each time you complete a quest, so you can lvl up without actually having to grind.

You get a lot of diversity in the areas you can visit, and each one is packed with little details and touchs which make you just wander around noseying. its really rather good.

Hohum, I didn't realise people had such an aversion to online-fees; I just thought they were part and parcel of the MMO-thang.

A year on from my last comment, crikey. There are some new shots from the Valentines update at the bottom, below the Lunar festival shots.

Lots has been added to the game world in the year that's passed, and lots is promised to be added. All eyes are on the expansion set to come out some time this year.
