What engine does it use and can you drive those vehicles?

Ohh, and next time someone uses a pic of me they really should ask first.

There is another screenshot that has that buggy and a skyline that looks similar to that of a certain Bungie shooter.

Edit> Nah, it was a spoof screenshot

The car looks a lot like a Halo Warthog to me

I already bought UT2K3, don't think I have any need for this.

does this mean there'll be a new UT every year, like an EA sports franchise? (The similarity of their respective logos would tend to imply this, if nothing else.)

If so, that's so f*cked up. Sports games get new versions each year because teams and seasons change in the real world, and fans want to keep up with them. Do Atari really think that players are going to go, "hmmm, Blarg the Destroyer, don't want to play him, he's so 2003"??

UT works because it has such a low spec that these days virtually anyone can play it. My mate still runs his on a p2 400 (or similar). People surely aren't going to be arsed upgrading all their settings servers maps etc every 12 months along with a new vid card etc to play what is ostensibly a slightly prettier version of the same game.

Or is the above all just an excuse for me owning a two year old p3/700?

I'm a big UT fan, but I will not be getting this game though. What the hell they playing at releasing games yearly? Do they think they're EA or something. Sucks bigtime!!!!!

Going to go play now ;)

Seems fair of them to do a new version of these games very year to me. And it will happen more and more, deosnt make any sort of financial sense to make a game that people only have to pay for once then play online for years and years without paying more. Everquest and other games demand subs, put in this context £30 a year is fairly cheap. Gamers want the developers to keep patching and updating and doing new maps, why should they get them free?

Seems very strange indeed, most people are more than happy with 2003 for now, are you sure this isnt an add-on pack or something

So, other than stealing Halo's Warthog and Scorpion, what are they intending on chaning this year? Updating team roosters?

I'm beggining to hate them. No, really, I AM. I mean, UT2003 great landmark were the expansive environment and the vehicles. Both got canned. (There is only a test map using a buggy weirdo bad designed vehicle). Are they going to implement it for 2k4, now that they have the time? Their official word on canning the vehicles was "We don't think it would be fun or Unreal anymore". So, is "Unreal Tournament 2004" going to have a subtitle of "Halo ripoff"?

Bah, they lost my respect. (I think I'll still buy the game though...)
    /me is ashamed of myself

Assault is back. That's enough for me. I may be a sucker but that is the biggest thing I missed in UT2003 and I'd gladly pay to get those levels for UT2004. And hopefully as 2003 comes bundled it'll push up the numbers of players for existing maps online when released.

My only concern is if they have a partial refund for 2003 owners system for 2004 will it extend to the rest of the world or will I get ripped off just because I don't live in the US?

    looks like q3 to me
  • smelliot #15 9 years ago

I'd rather pay yearly than monthly-I wanted to get that planetside but its a sub game. Why do people actually bother spending £100 a year for the subscription when they could buy three other games for that?
  • smelliot #16 9 years ago

Nobody buys Fifa every year...or at least I hope they don't.

i loved UT, played it alot but online was trouble for my crappy 56k modem (probably actually running closer to 12k)

ut 2003 i havent really played that much, i only bought it a few months back and really havent been to bothered.

this however looks more interesting, as someone else said the large out door levels and vehicles was what i was looking forward too in ut2k3, plus assualt mode.

the fact that they seem to have delibrately held those off to be in this game doesnt make me too pleased, and since it is using all the old content from ut 2k3 it seems like this is simply an expansion pack being sold at full price. unless i can get it for under £20 naaaaahhhhhhhhh
  • blicko #19 9 years ago

Shivoa: there is an assualt mod doing the rounds which is quite good. UT2K3 is an excellent game and a big improvement over the original (gameplay and AI) and I hope that trend continues. I couldn't give a cr*p if they rip off Halo (EPIC ripped the alternate fire from Bungie's Marathon and it was a good addition). I'll pay full price if there are enough improvement to warrant it. They've released a good deal of map and gameplay additions for 2K3 without asking any money (unlike EA).
