Woman driver in the first screen eh?

Why are we being over run with racing games? I hate them all.
  • Blerk #2 7 years ago

I have Super Mario Kart for my SNES. I need nothing else.
  • Thamuhacha #3 7 years ago

Mario Kart doesn't count. They are ALL awesome. All 4 of them.
  • Blerk #4 7 years ago

Mario Kart is the only racing game I've ever been able to play. Toca, F1, Gran Turismo, etc. etc. just don't work for me. First corner I'm in the gravel - everyone else vanishes into the distance, never to be seen again. Except when they lap me.
  • UncleLou #5 7 years ago

    Hm, a bit low-poly.

It looks worse than the screenshots for the first TRD, but then the game didn't really look like the shots.

Anyway, amusing as always how people who don't like racing games like to hear themselves "talk" on the internet. ;)
  • tiddles #6 7 years ago

    Brakes, Blerk, brakes!
  • renzo #7 7 years ago

    /agrees with UncleLou

If you hate racing games, I don't see how you could be 'over run' with them when you probably don't even buy any. It's not like telesales people are phoning you up telling you to buy it.

Is it really that hard to avoid games from genres you don't like?
  • ChrisOTR #8 7 years ago

    Looks great :D

    Especially the damage.

    Brakes are for squares, man!

I think the people that don't play racing games simply don't realise that they are all as different as games in every other genre. Burnout, Gran Turismo and that new GTR game are as different as Thief, Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell. They are confused by the fact that there are always cars and roads on the screenies, probably. ;)
  • Blerk #11 7 years ago

Ah, I'm only playing with you all. I know they're all different and I appreciate that you all love them. However, they do all have one thing in common....

I suck at them all. :-)
  • Thamuhacha #12 7 years ago

I take the points from Renzo and Unclelou.

And I agree that Burnout, GT4 and Formula 1 (for example) are all very different.

But I can still say I don't like them. It's not like I go on every single racing game thread and have a go, is it?

And we ARE overrun. Look at the Eurogamer front page: GT4, Enthusia, GTR FIA, Formula 1, TOCA ... they take up most of the damn site at the moment :-)

And it seems that most of them (GT, Forza, GTR FIA) are trying to be "the only racing game you'll ever need".

EDIT - I suck at them too. Except Mario Kart. At which I rule.

I'm looking forward to this. I already bought Toca Race Driver 1 on PS2, and 2 on the PC. Now I have a playseat with a force feedback wheel in front of my 32" widescreen, and I'm finally enjoying Gran Turismo to the fullest. I will probably buy all multi-platform titles for the PS2, since I only have a decent wheel for that. Can't go buying a wheel for every system I own either.

Of course you can, it's just that in every racing game article or screenshots feature of recent times, the first couple of comments was along the line of "Oh no, not another racing game". Not necessarily by you (in fact I don't remember who it was), but it does get a bit annoying for someone who is interested in the genre.

It's not like I make a comment under every JRPG, Mario or sports game, is it? :)

No, but someone does. AH! Back at yaaaah!
  • Zero Beat #16 7 years ago

The first shot stinks of render and the others look remarkably similar so..
  • Gareth.de #17 7 years ago

I hope they cut out the rally sections in this version as they were utter shite on the second game. After my car bounced and flipped over on a pebble for the 7th time I turned the game off and have never gone back to it since.
  • UncleLou #18 7 years ago

    The screenshots don't work.

    /whips Bertie
  • Ceatlan #19 7 years ago

Personally I'd like to be able to pick not to do 'any' of the rally or ice racing sections. They completely spoilt the game for me, but the career mode track racing was the mutts nuts.

I gave up at around 80% on the second one, as there was an ice race between a jag XKR and an aston martin where I struggled to stay on the same lap, let alone win :-( Up until that point I'd been getting on fine, so it really wound me up to get stuck so near the end and suddenly hit something I couldn't get near to doing.
  • monkeymagic #20 7 years ago

i was in exactly the same position Ceatlan and after that i gave up on career... still a blast online though.

Is it sad that apart from the Toca games being consistantly good, i want to buy the game for the wonderful looking 95 williams and Jim Clarkes lotus? At last i can get rid of gpl...
  • bionutz #21 7 years ago

Clicking on the screen doesn't advance to next, neither does clicking on next or on the thumbnails. The same problem appeared for the screenshots for Mist. These (toca) shots I want to see!
  • crashVoodoo #22 7 years ago

if you're using moz firebird you can middle click the thumbs and they open in another tab
  • YUSHi #23 7 years ago

I'm actually looking forward to this one, TOCA Race Driver 2 was a supprise for me last year, i bought it blindly at GAME as it was only £24.99 on release date and i really enjoyed it. Still, i love the original TOCA Touring Cars... driving around Brans Hatch in that Audi or Renault going flat out - it was a mission just to keep the car on the tarmac but it was a lot of fun.
  • Razz #24 6 years ago

    Nice mix of vehicles.
  • ralphwolfenstein #25 6 years ago

    this actually looks... fantastic
  • UncleLou #26 6 years ago

I can only recommend to try the demo, it really is astonishingly awful. Where they took these screenshots from I don't know, but not from the PC version. Crappy graphics, 110% arcade handling even in "sim" mode. This makes NfS:MW look like a hardcore simulation.

I was a huge fan of the Toca series so far, I can only hope the demo was completely unrepresentative of the final game.

Thamuhacha, "Why are we being over run with racing games? I hate them all."
Maybe there is something wrong with you?

I have come to understand that screenshots cannot be trusted anymore, they show you camera angles that you are never going to see ingame or show you screenshots that are so touched up its like real life. When the game arrives its a total let down.

Although I must say it does look good.
