    Good points:
    1. Konami
    2. SRPG
    3. Suikoden

    Bad Points:
    1. Suikoden IV
    2. Pretty ropey graphics
    3. (Allegedly) overly-simplified battle engine

I shall play 'wait and see' on this one.

I'd be saying "Play Fire Emblem in the GC" instead.

Not that I have a GC mind... :(

It just takes "Suikoden" to perk my ears up.

Looks a bit meh, but then, appearances can be deceptive... will keep an eye on this one.

It's been getting quite good press... I live in hope!

    Ingrate :-)

    Sorry, Tham. :-)

I did play it for nearly 30 hours! But it's still my least favourite Suikoden. It checks all the right boxes, but it's go no soul. I was upset. :-(

    >I did play it for nearly 30 hours!

Fair enough. It went to a good home :-)

The worst part about Suikoden IV is how the GUI of the previous one was completelly ditched to something reminescent of a NES game. And well, the story is pretty ropey. Not to mention what the final boss is. And how the party switching was pretty much useless. The mahjong-esq game was kinda cool, however. I spent hours on that.

Oh yeah, I... don't dislike this. And I saw that Suikoden V trailer and got hooked as well. I'm just too big a fan of the concept. And a 108-character roaster for a SRPG sounds very nice.

"The worst part about Suikoden IV is how the GUI of the previous one was completelly ditched to something reminescent of a NES game"

Surely the GUI is the least of Suikoden 4's problems. What about the 'every 6 seconds' random encounter rate...
  • Blerk #11 6 years ago

The interface and the random battles pale in comparison to the fact that they forgot to include a story. Or that they have 108 characters, all of whom appear to be missing any personality whatsoever.

    So ..... it's shit then?

    It sounds shit.

It's difficult to explain what's wrong with it. Like I said before - it's got no 'soul'. The story never really seems to kick off, the characters are all very bland and you never feel like you're connecting with them, and the world map is very, very small (although it initially appears to be huge). The actual fighting is okay and there's quite a bit to do, but ultimately it's missing.... something.

It's pretty much missing the scenario writers and almost all the team that worked up to Suikoden III, that's what it is missing.
