Nope, it's PS2. As you would know if you read the preview linked at the bottom of the page. ;)

Yeah, they're far too hi-res for a PS/2 to manage ... actually, not sure any console could manage those! Not a jaggy to be seen anywhere ...

Just read an interview about Ratchet & Clank with the president of Insomniac games, Ted Price or something, who stated "If you know how to do it, you can squeeze much more power out of the PS2 than out of the GCN or Xbox." You may know or not know that I am not system-biased at all, but how can I expect a good game from someone who talks just trash?

Much as I'm loath to believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Chris Deering, he was quoted in MCV a couple of weeks ago as saying that Sony run every game they receive for approval through an analyzer that checks how much of the console's processing power it's using, and the highest any of them has come so far is about 40%.

Like I said, I don't know if I believe him, but I think it's fair to say that developers still haven't fully harnessed the power of the PS2. It's a complex piece of hardware, and just look at how far developers have managed to push the PSOne in the last couple of years compared to how the launch titles looked. There's a lot of mileage in the PS2 still.

I fully agree, but I was especially embarassed by the term "much" more power. I think this just is stupid Sony-propaganda.

I wouldn't doubt that the PS/2 hasn't been pushed to it's limit yet, but those screenshots are (unless someone knows better) at a higher resolution than a PS/2 can produce (and certainly higher than my TV can show!).

I'm guessing I'm the only person here who has actually played the game, so I'll wade in. These shots have indeed been spruced up - the actual game is at about the same level as Jak & Daxter, as explained in the preview.

Just out of interest, how do they (in simple technical terms, please ;-) ) blow up the resolution for the screenshots?

I was just paying hommage to the famous movie by Michelanagel Antonioni in which, iirc, TNT is not playing a major role, while the scaling up of photographies is.

Well the PS2 games are like all games developed on PC.
When they run them on the PS2 developement pcs they can adjust the resolution as they wish, resulting in these pretty screenshots, wich never can be achieved by the final product.
In fact I think this is misadvertising.
Peoples go 'wow look at those graphics'...

That's what I thought when I saw the tv-ads for FFX, and guess what, no borders to be seen...

Btw, thanks, FezZ.

Hmm. I thought that whilst developer's use pc's to write the code, they had to download it onto a special dev PS/2 to run it? Hence it would only run at the resolution that a PS/2 would allow ...

I would have thought, that they'd have rendered the pic's on 3D Studio Max (or Maya or whatever) using the models/textures etc that appear in the game.

Actually I have - one of my friends works for Wide Games (the people who are writing Prisoner of War). He brought home his PS/2 dev kit - his isn't a pc, it's a special PS/2. He *does* use a pc to develop on though. I even found you a picture :-

"Yeah but why slagg off PS2 screens when most XBOX screens are hi-res mockups."

The xbox actually can go up to 1900 x something but you need some kind of special connection .

I'm sorry but that just ain't possible.
The ps2 has a max res of 640*400 interlased, and these screenshots are 1196 * 972.
And they aren't interpolated to a higher res either.
Plus it has FSAA, just watch the edges, they are blurred.

Well I've played the e3 demo of this too, & it certainly wasn't as nice as these screenshots lead us to believe. Good, but not this good.
