Wow, it seems u guys care so much about NFS by taking the time out to post comments here. NFS Porschce Unleashed is still one of the best PC racers you can buy, while Hot Pursuit II and the recent Most Wanted also remain the best entries in the series.

This one looks shit though, with night-only racing and all that street racing crap.

@Talha: can't agree with you there. PC racing has much better games to offer (even much older games), and while the latest NFS may have been the best in the series, they still are mediocre games.

@Neuro: Actually it is a question of approach. Obviously if you will compare NFS with games like GTR, GT, Forza, TOCA etc, it will pale as a driving game. See, it is not meant to be a 'deep' racing game - it has always been about cheap thrills.

As a compensation, it enjoys a much larger audience because anyone can pick up and play an NFS game. You would even think it would have a younger age profile.

Play? Play? Have a go at a NFS game yes but not 'play'. Rubbish since NFS 3DO and even that'd be rubbish by todays standards.

We are fortunate to be living in an age where there are games like GTR, GT, Forza, WRC, PGR and Burnout etc. Those games indeed make the whole NFS series look like a pointless exercise.

That said, Porsche Unleashed was really good (remember it was six years ago) and Most Wanted, too. At least they were not your average 'import tuner' racers, which this one looks like, and fugly to boot.

Screenshots can't really convey the shocking framerate the demo ran at.

    I like the shiny!

Don't know much about racing games though to be fair...
Also, though I hate to admit it, I kinda like there's a style and a focus. Makes it easier for us clueless people to whom car names/makes etc mean nothing but do enjoy shiny yellow paint and going fastness every now and then.

Unleashed and Most Wanted certainly aren't "mediocre". Most Wanted's great police chases and open structure make it a pretty unique and excellent arcade racer.

This one looks (and plays, from the demo) shit, though. And I wonder if there are really so many people who prefer "night-racing only" games that they keep making them?

It is depressing to see the franchise at this low in its career. One would think doing a version every year gave you an opportunity to bring something fresh and exciting to the table, but that has not been true ever since the Underground games.
