They all look really pixellated- I could believe these were GBA ports rather than Wii, it's worrying how bad they'd look blown up to tv size.

You two are in a bad mood, aren't you? This is BITMAP HEAVEN!

Love the artwork and adore 8/16bit gfx but it does look ropey in those shots, far too pixelated indeed.
    Disappointing. :(

I'm not compaining about the 2d spriteyness of it- MS is, and always has been great fun, just that it looks a real mess.

It'll look better on an SD tv, for which they were made.

Also, it'll look a LOT better when moving. Part of the amazingness of these games' visuals is how much stuff is going on onscreen.
Not unlike a dev currently complaining about how screenshots for modern games tend to look shit too, because particle effects look bad when frozen but amazing when moving.

Obviously some of you haven't played game boy color/advance games in a while.

And, "too pixelated"? Those sprites are at least 64x64! Pure luxury!

Never played Metal Slug, though. Looking forward to try it. :)

I cant wait to see the 'trendy person playing' trailer for this one.

There are some fucked up comments in here. Did some of you expect a port of a 2D game to somehow un-pixellate itself in the process? Perhaps you thought the Wii would magically add resolution to the game? Surely you're aware of the stultifyingly obvious point that resizing pixellated images to non-1:1 ratios and then compressing them as JPEGs will make them look funny?
  • jellyhead #10 6 years ago

Cheers Haowan, i'd not thought of EG mangling the screenshots.
Here's a video of the control system in action.
You can see the game looks a hell of a lot better for real even on this youtube video

No- not everyone knows the effects of JPEG compression- obviously I don't, I might be the only person here who doesn't but obviously I'm not tech savvy enogh to know.
