Is this one of those games like Circle of the Moon that'll make you roar "FUCK!!" in your living-room while everyone else is enjoying the telly, earning their costernation?

    If so...

I wonder how much, if at all the crazyness is toned down for GBA. I bought Metal Slug First Mission for NGPC and it just wasn't the same without the screen filling insanity and the lack of vertical resolution spoilt it too.

Got Metal Slug 3X on the way, should be great!
  • Blerk #5 8 years ago

Hurra.... oh man. WOPR, you spoiled it for me! :-(
  • Tiger_Walts #6 8 years ago

/never lets WOPR near his bonfire again

Blerk's probably going to embark on an embittered vendetta for me saying this, but I got three games over the weekend:
    Thief on Xbox
    Disgaea on PS2
Metal Gear X (for PS1... I'll say that again just in case the implication of what I am about to add is lost on you: that was for the PlayStation 1. One. Not two, one. The first one. Yes.)

And guess which one I been playing the most. Go on. No, go on.
Oh, I'll tell you then: Metal Gear.
That's instead of two of the more recent releases on Xbox and PS2.
Course, this could have something to do with me being RIGHT THE HELL into old school shooters (And more than a little to do with the juddery framerate and shearing on Thief breaking my head in half), but... I'm still sure there's a message in there somewhere.
  • Stevas mkII #8 8 years ago

Doh. Course I meant Metal SLUG, only, for some strange reason, I can't change it because the edit post button is frigged.
  • Blerk #9 8 years ago

Hey, at least you played a good game!

I won a copy of Metal Slug X in an EG compo recently. Hasn't turned up yet.
  • lost_soul #10 8 years ago

I was never that bothered with Metal Slug X, absolutely loved MS2 though, my favourite game of the series. I used to be able to get 3/4 of the way through without losing a life.
  • Stevas mkII #11 8 years ago

Thing is though, am I correct in asuming that I need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games to? I tried to save my game in Metal SLUG X and it wasn't having any of it.
  • Stevas mkII #12 8 years ago

Cheers WOPR. Any idea what they go for now, while you're being all helful and shit?

lost_soul: Metal Slug 2? On which format? Are there any other MS games out there I could be getting hold of?
  • Blerk #13 8 years ago

GAME do 3rd party PSOne memory cards for about a fiver, iirc. Official ones are still about a tenner.
  • lost_soul #14 8 years ago

There are 5 Metal Slug games (6 if you include X, which is just a remix of MS2). 1-3 are fantastic games, 4 is shit, and 5 average.

I think MS3 is available on the Xbox now (or will be released soon). You can get all the games on the NeoGeo, or, *cough*emulation*cough* ;-)
  • Blerk #15 8 years ago

There's a PS2 version of MS3 too, but it's not out over here.
  • Stevas mkII #16 8 years ago

Thanks for the feedback ,chaps. Questions:
No to PS1 cheapo memory cards? I take it they're STILL not stable?
No chance of PS2 MS3 coming out over here, then?
    MS3 released soon? How soon?

Yeah, yeah, I know; I COULD google for these answers but, well, what would YOU guys do with yourselves for the rest of the morning, eh?
  • lost_soul #17 8 years ago

26th May for the Xbox MS3 in the US, don't know about the EU.

According to gamerankings, there is a PS1 version of the first MS game.
  • dadrester #18 8 years ago

second hand memory cards are the way to go. a couple of quid for official ones, if that. it's kind of wierd though, seeing other peoples old saves. kind of pervy in a non-sexual kind of way
  • Stevas mkII #19 8 years ago

Know what you mean. Isn't it strange when you delete them, too? Don't you feel a little guilty? I mean, someone put in a lot of time and effort on that and, with a single button press, it's gone...

Apart from the 'pervy' bit. You're on your own there, sunshine.
Did I say 'sunshine'? Sorry, I meant 'you twisted sicko'.
  • Tiger_Walts #20 8 years ago

If I buy second hand GBA games I'm always tempted to start a saved game but I never do. Usually.

First thing I do is delete them.
  • ChocNut #21 8 years ago

    So whens this out then?
  • bionutz #22 8 years ago

Normally I delete the saves, when I sell a GBA game...

Nobody cunningly copypasted the "more comments" list.
  • Stevas mkII #24 8 years ago

    Best.
    Post.
    Ever.

Clearly a very cunning commentary on society's reliance on information, with perhaps an undercurrent of thinly veiled disgust at humanity's inherent desire - nay, NEED for communication on levels beyond that of mere normal human interaction. The elegant simplicity of the post is juxtaposed by the complicated story interwoven within it, if one only looks deep enough - or, for that matter, IS deep enough to have the reflection of the mirror held up by the author drift into focus.

Or... what UncleLou said. Your call.

"and indeed the NGPC version is pretty good"

If theres a comment which throws that NTSC opinion into question, it is the above.

The NGPC version was BLOODY HORRIBLE!

"I won a copy of Metal Slug X in an EG compo recently. Hasn't turned up yet."

    Same thing here...
  • D_arkTrooper #27 8 years ago

This GBA version of Metal Slug is actually a lot of fun having played it quite a lot over the weekend. The graphics are smooth and colourful, the sound is up to the usual Metal Slug standard and the gameplay is as tough and challenging as ever.

I`m expecting some good reviews for this.

  • Bobby Dazzler #28 8 years ago

I think it suits the format perfectly - I had a go on a preview cart at an Ignition do a couple of months ago and can't wait to get my own copy
  • ElephantMonkey #29 7 years ago

copy and paste it? Ctrl-c usually does the job
