Also, i'm glad Nintendo keeps providing us with original and exciting games based on their 20 year old IP.

Im not sure that it is. When they come out with titles like Pikmin and Animal Crossing no one buys them. IMO they are producing a fantastic output, yeah its not a big range, but it is quality fun gaming.
Im sure this will be fun with a few mates round, Nintendo sports games normaly are.

See I'd pretty much say the opposite, never really enjoyed most tennis games but loved Mario Tennis. But then saying that I do prefer Tiger Woods to Mario Golf, so who knows?
Really i suppose it all comes down to which is the most fun to play, style/setting is secondary.

As for using Mario I have to say I would have loved to see them use other characters. Even 2 very simple characters which then make up an entire team would have pleased me.
Just as with Mario Power Tennis I'll have to see it first to buy it second.

I own both Mario Golf and Tennis on the GC, and both are bloody great games - the familiar IP just makes you feel more at home, they dont scrimp on the gameplay in any way.

Personally I'm up for a little Mario Syncronised Swimming!

Not so much about active sporting as the management side of things. Catch a horse Pokemon and train them to run in some big race, or a dog Pokemon and take them to the track. Advance far enough and you'll be able to enter your bird Pokemon in underground cock fights, no wait that's what Pokemon is anyway.

For some reason the DK backgrounds always look best in these games IMO. Smash Brothers, Mario Kart...
