Erm... Why don't people realise FPS's are supposed to be played with a mouse and WASD?

"Luke Skywalker in Aunt Beru haircut shocker!"

I 'd say they are very faithful to the movies in that respect.

"Erm... Why don't people realise FPS's are supposed to be played with a mouse and WASD?"

Seems to work pretty well in Halo. Otherwise, people wouldn't play and buy it.

Eldritch - you are the Dredd gamegossip Eldritch right?
  • Mr_Sleep #6 10 years ago

Otherwise, people wouldn't play and buy it.

Myst was surely a challenging and involving game, otherwise people wouldn't buy and....oh that's right no one played it anyway ;)
  • otto #7 10 years ago

I played it & thought it was great :p
  • Mr_Sleep #8 10 years ago

No accounting for taste i suppose :p I must admit i dabbled a bit, i actually got off the first island but just kind of got bored, it needed a stirring score a la Outcast...did you ever play the 3D version?

Okay another example: Plummers Wear Ties was surely a challenging and involving game, otherwise people wouldn't buy and....oh that's right no one played it anyway ;)

did you ever play the 3D version?

No. I was absolutely engrossed by both Myst & Riven, played through them both fairly quickly and really loved them. Myst III is sitting on my shelf, I haven't had the time to devote to it yet. Too many other games in progress.
  • Mr_Sleep #10 10 years ago

What appealed to you most? I wonder if i might like them having matured since the last time i played it, it was actually the first game i played on a PC. Were you into any of the Cyro games or was it just the Broderbund titles?
  • otto #11 10 years ago

The atmosphere, the puzzles, the plot, in that order I think. No, I never really got into the Cryo Myst-a-likes... Don't know why, but they didn't seem to hold the same attraction for me.
  • Mr_Sleep #12 10 years ago

That is quite interesting, i must admit i didn't really like the plot of myst, could you spoil exactly what the point of that game was? It doesn't really matter, just wondering :)
  • otto #13 10 years ago

Well I'm not going to post spoilers, the plot was kind of incidental to the game which was just a series of puzzles, really - but there was enough of a plot to give the puzzles a purpose. It also lent atmosphere to the game as a whole, along with the graphics and sound which I still think were fantastic. Myst gets a lot of ridicule from gamers, probably because it was so popular even with non-gamers - Sims anyone? - but I think it's undeserved. It was, and is, a good stand-alone game.

Well I'm not going to post spoilers

    Fair enough :)

I guess a great deal of the appeal is due to it's puzzle back bone, i spent quite a lot of time with Monkey Island, Grim Fandango and Longest Journey all of which were mostly plot based and the puzzles circulated around the plot, Myst seems to me (from personal experience and my interpretation of your comments) mostly based on the puzzle game with a plot tacked on. I would prefer that a non-gamer became involved with gaming in some way, even if it is Myst.

No, that one is still supposedly reviewing a picture of Jane Seymour rather than release any singles.

If it weren't for his regular public performances I'd say he's been dead since 1993.

One of the big mysteries of life: what does he live on? I assume everybody who ever fancied buying one of his few albums either bought one or didn't buy one by now. Or can you live on E's alone?

    "what does he live on?"

I suppose the occasional tour without the record company taking a cut would make some cash. Plus there are the festivals each year. And there has to be some royalties coming in.

Also there are various rumours of him doing some other music under different names.

    "what does he live on?"

The blood of virgin goth groupies?
  • ssuellid #23 10 years ago

"The blood of virgin goth groupies?"

Girls with long black hair, wearing fishnets and minis? Who could blame him if he did?

Looks like Eldritch is guest starring in the next Austin Powers movie? "You will pay me .. one hundred billion dollars. Or I will release another greatest hits compilation. Hahaha. Mwuhahahaa. Bwuhahahaaaa."

"If it weren't for his regular public performances I'd say he's been dead since 1993"

Well I saw him playing the Birmingham NEC back in 1993, so I know he was still around then. Or at least, there was some skinny little guy moping around the stage singing Sisters songs and Pink Floyd covers.
