I see that everybody's getting into their rim lighting after seeing the screenshots from Jade Empire.

I hereby predict that it will be 2005/2006's lens flare, just as 'blooming' has been over this last year.

Rim lighting is the glint you see around the outlines of the characters.

Edit: here's an example render that includes a rim light. I doubt they're actually using a light to create the rim lighting though - it's probably done in a special shader.
