If you pop onto their homepage you can see some little videos, and all sorts of wonderful magic: Which is also where these shots are from.

The next big beta weekend is on the 18th of February at approximately 20:01 GMT.

I've heard lots of good things about this game, lets hope it delivers!

Cheers,

Bert

It does look very very good

but the fact that it is more strategy and less rpg worries me :|

Having now played 2 of the beta weekends of Guild Wars and the public beta of World of Warcraft, I really can't choose between the two. Which says allot about the quality of Guild Wars.

Saw that too, it's weird, isn't it? As I am naive enough to believe that the usual monthly fee is more than just money-grabbing, I wonder how they expect to fund themselves after a few months, when sales of the game will have dropped nearly completely.

The clients for other subscription-based games are cheap or even free. Let's say you paid £40 for this game (they mention it'll be priced near other "top-tier" PC games). That might be the client and three months of subscription for another game, or even 5 or six months if the client is free. So they should have a goodly amount of cash to start off with.

Not sure what they'll do when the cash runs out though!

Hm, in my experience, the client software isn't free usually. I know some of them get a lot cheaper or are free after a while, but just look at CoH or WoW: both cost as much as a normal single-player game, and I remember I paid the normal price for the EVE client as well.

And all MMORPGS have expansion packs, I doubt this suffices to support a game for months, let alone several years.

You think it is as good as WOW?

Everything I've heard from people who've beta tested it, leads me to believe it will be at least close to it [WoW].

It's a different kettle of fish though: Warcraft is more MMORPG with emphasis on the traditional values of levelling and such, where as Guild Wars is putting more emphasis on player skill, with less treadmilling; given that, it's purely down to personal preference.

Also, WoW is a fact, Guild Wars is still mildly a fiction.

The extra price on the package also means that people who buy it and stop paying don't incure a penalty to the developer. I imagine lots of people try MMORPGs and don;t like them, and stop subscribing after the first month. This way, the devs keep all of that money. In my first example, that's two months of subscription money the developer gets to keep the service going for other people who are still playing.

Not a totally fair or foolproof system, but the lure of no subscription fees is probably attractive enough to get people to buy it.

but if it costs the same as regular AAA titles then why should that be a concern? £40 always means £30 on the intarweb and i don't mind paying that much when you consider that it's about the same as WoW minus the subscription. and if you play the game for 6 months it more than pays for itself.

I am currently playing this game. My advise to anyone who wants play this game. To get 100% benefit from this MMOG, you need to have a couple of good friends. Solo is OK, but after a while you'll get bored. This game does have it's + & - points.
