Oh great.. cant wait. Another trailer. Wouldn't it be lovely......IF WE HAD THE FRICKIN' GAME? EH? ROCKSTAR? EH? EH?
  • Greger #6 5 years ago

Well, it's better to not have the game than to have some unfinished crap. Anyhow, this looks I-I4Wt!
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #7 4 years ago

THIS, specifically, is the new shot. PlanetGTA gets the kudos for digging it up. They also got sent some mouse mats, apparently.

    Well I'm jealous.

    Smug smooth scrolling bastards.
  • The-Bodybuilder #9 4 years ago

For the first time, I'm actually interested in GTA4.

    Very interested.
  • Skooch #10 4 years ago

I hope the game looks better than the screenies, I am sure it will.

    /crosses fingers.

Nothing wrong with the way the game looks, it's more than acceptable. What's more important is the game play. The GAME PLAY for heaven sake! There is some amazingly cool little tid bits coming out of R* lately, that's what's getting me really excited.
  • Skooch #12 4 years ago

I agree that gameplay is very important, but I am also a graphics whore :0)

Great graphics actually add to gameplay - for example, Fight Night Round 3 doesn't need a health bar (default option is OFF) because the great graphics show exactly how injured the other fighter is, whether he is tiring and where he has been punished - thereby altering your tactics and interaction with the game.

I just don't think the screenies look that impressive - line them up against those for Just Cause 2 and you'll see what I mean. However I don't expect them to be the finished article and am not dissing GTAV at all, just wishing for something that is also very nice looking.
  • MGG #13 4 years ago

@Skooch - that *is* the finished article! It is an entire free-roaming city with zero-loading after the first boot up - you can't make the gfx any higher res than that and still fit it in an X360 or PS3!

Trust me, it looks great when you are playing it, thats the important thing.

    Happily, January has already gone!

Another month nearer to GTA IV.

A few trickling news urinations about online multiplayer next, please.

I was happily lost in all other GTA cities, I'm sure the same will be true here - graphics, storyline, all of that stuff is just periphery as far as I'm concerned, to tooling around with my imagination and a decently-put-together sandbox.

Nice to see there are some clothing change options, although am secretly hoping the load times are better for changing shirts than SanAn.

    /excited
  • bitesize #15 4 years ago

have they announced anything about online multiplayer yet, or is it all rumoury?
  • Zomoniac #16 4 years ago

Given that it looks vastly inferior to Crackdown and will undoubtedly be far less fun, I'm not quite sure why people care anymore.
  • Physically_Insane #17 4 years ago

It doesn't look vastly inferior to Crackdown! I've got a feeling that this will be the best GTA yet. Can't wait!
  • BadBoyBonner #18 4 years ago

Are we to believe that the game uses a real time median filter? Those images look decidedly strange with regard to shading, blurring, blooming and the edge's of things.

Luckily it was always the scale and rarely the intricacy that gave GTA games their appeal - hopefully this one can recreate the feeling of wonder and awe that GTA III did - kinda lost interest after Vice City and even that didn't feel as intoxicating as finishing GTA III.
  • hjarg #19 4 years ago

Lol @ view this sick filth
  • Lexx87 #20 4 years ago

lol @ "vastly inferior to crackdown" from screenshots :p

  • miiiguel #24 4 years ago

It doesn't seem as interresting as Crackdown, but still worth a look.

"It doesn't seem as interresting as Crackdown, but still worth a look."

Sometimes I do wonder what planet you are from Miiguel! ;)
  • agparrot #26 4 years ago

    Give me the game, Now!

No... wait, let me just get done with all the other ones I have to play first.

Is there some gentle MGS baiting with Nico staling around on the George Washington Bridge, or whatever it is called?

I want some CSI: New York parodies, too, please.

    Give me the game!
  • Zomoniac #27 4 years ago

These new shots actually look quite good. Hopefully it will be as much fun to play as 1 and 2.
  • HarryPalmer #28 4 years ago

"I want some CSI: New York parodies, too, please. "

The option to put on sunglasses to emphasize the end of a sentence is a must.

That's actually GTA4's version of the Brooklyn Bridge. The George Washington bridge would be on the other side of Manhattan and much further north... (knows because he dragged his girlfriend there just to see it)

    I thankyou dadrester.

They say you learn something every day.

Is it the same bridge as supposed to be depicted in the opening MGS2 cinematic, then, the Brooklyn?

I tell myself I'm not going to have anything to do with GTAIV until the release, but every snippet has me a little more excited.

I'm probably going to have to get divorced just so I can put aside enough time to play it properly.
  • dadrester #31 4 years ago

Nah it's the George Washington bridge in the opening to MGS2 and then the huge Verrazano bridge in the second 'opening'. You can tell because the George Washington one is all metal and has loads more lights whereas the Brooklyn (or broker in GTA4) bridge has those stone arches.

I think I'm turning into some sort of in-game bridge expert. I've been over the rainbow bridge in Tokyo (used in tokyo highway battle) various other Tokyo bridges that feature in PGR. I went over the golden gate bridge as a kid once on a family holiday across the USA (featured in San Andreas). I've seen the Verrazano (admittedly this one was from the air) and George Washington bridges from MGS2 and the Brooklyn bridge from GTA4. And from where I used to live I could see the Forth road and rail bridges (also featured in San Andreas)

    phew!

[edit] oh yeah... not to mention most of the bridges in london that you can drive over in the Getaway or PGR. Oh and of course the Tyne bridge which features in the end credits of the original "Driver".

Hurry up and be released already!!!
Looking forward to the Multiplayer side of this also.
Will be interesting to see how they have implemented it.

    Gonna be a h00t!
  • monkie_king #33 4 years ago

What are the two parallel bridges you race across in PGR4? One is the Brooklyn, but what's the one next to it? It's a big suspension job.
  • dadrester #34 4 years ago

I think it's called the Manhattan bridge. (seen that one too, but I haven't played PGR4... actually it will be in Driver: Parallel lines so it counts... god help me)

Here's a photo i took of it from the brooklyn bridge :D

@dadrester - I think I'm turning into some sort of in-game bridge expert.

    You most definitely are!

You could do a globe-trotting blog about all the ingame bridges you've visited, with photos and stuff.

    /ponders more world travel wistfully.
  • dadrester #36 4 years ago

    :D

my game geeker and tourism knows no bounds... I made my girlfriend trapse all the way to dobuita so i could say i'd been in the same place shenmue was based.

also we almost crashed our van when i saw this place name in new zealand.

and seeing these out of the corner of my eye in a quiet tokyo station on my last day just made my day...

"Oh great.. cant wait. Another trailer. Wouldn't it be lovely......IF WE HAD THE FRICKIN' GAME? EH? ROCKSTAR? EH? EH?"

Doesn't this attitude just make R*'s policy of keeping reviews back till the week before release seem appropriate.
  • Foat1 #41 4 years ago

    best game i ever played
