    Ah... lovely. Lovely lovely lovely.

Something else to look forward to and then get increasing bitter about when it undoubtedly fails to materialise in Europe for no apparent reason.

Er, some of those are Code Age Commanders shots...

It looks like it's heading for a summer release in the far away eastern kingdoms, but yeah, unfortunately no word when it'll wash up here.

    Oh boy /gets toolkit out

Right, thanks for the heads up Itamae, they should all be the right ones now!

I don't see why it won't recieve a European release when the first two did.

    Shhhh, nobody mention Suikoden..

  • PinkSpider #6 7 years ago

But they released the 'meh' suikoden 4 :(

Also it looks ace, better play better than two tho (out of battle anyways), the story just didnt capture me.
  • Blerk #7 7 years ago

The first Grandia has one of the best RPG stories ever! Ever ever! Ever!
  • PinkSpider #8 7 years ago

Yea, I did quite like the first. Still didnt capture me as much as FF7/9/10/Disgaea

How could I also forget FF6?!

That fourth screenie along looks awesome!

I love the first two Grandias.

    "JUUUUSTTTIIIIINNNNNNNN!"
  • itamae #10 7 years ago

    Ah, much better. Cheers Bertie.

Grandia 1 is one of the best RPGs ever, and not just in my opinion. It's a shame that the sequel was such a letdown in comparison. Here's hoping that GameArts can return to their old brilliance with the third iteration.
  • Blerk #11 7 years ago

Grandia 2 was still an excellent game. It was only the fact that Grandia 1 was so phenomenal that made it seem a little disappointing.
  • itamae #12 7 years ago

    That's what I meant of course :-)

I agree, Grandia 2 is an awesome game, but the fact that it was standing on the shoulders of a giant and the story was a bit lacklustre somewhat spoiled the fun for me.
It's much better than a lot of recent RPGs anyway so anyone who hasn't played Grandia 1+2 should hurry up and buy those games.
  • Megapocalypse #13 7 years ago

Hmm, I feel I should try and find a copy of the original, though I doubt it will be as simple as looking in GAME's now minuscule psx preowned section. :(
  • Decoded #14 7 years ago

What was Grandia's story? Seriously. From the time I played all I could make out was that two annoying kids wanted to go on an adventure (i.e. walk around numerous boring dungeons). I only played for 15 hours or so because the game kept crashing my PS2, but still...
  • Blerk #15 7 years ago

Grandia has a main story but that's not the best thing. Grandia's main draw is the character development - specifically how Justin changes from being a smart-arsed kid back in his home town to a true hero. And, of course, it's a love story. The characters at the end of the game are almost entirely different to how they were at the beginning, and it's so well done you don't notice it happening until you look back after the end credits.

Fabulous stuff. No RPG fan could fail to be disappointed.

Er... except maybe you, Decoded. :-)
  • tengu #16 7 years ago

So... beautiful... oh, and from the looks of things it might have the same (or very similar at least) combat system to Grandia II! This'll be 'da bomb'.

Now if it gets out before the end of 2005, then maybe the rest of the year won't seem so bad for JRPG geeks.
  • Hunam85 #17 7 years ago

Yeah, Gradia 2's battle system is the stuff of legends
  • Kami #18 7 years ago

Looks pretty... but I dunno. With Square-Enix involved (Last I heard, anyway), this is looking like a Grandia/Final Fantasy hybrid. Part of the charm of Grandia and, indeed, Grandia 2, is the fantastically ridiculous characters, the ridiculously corny storylines, and the general simplicity of the gameplay.

This is looking all too polished and pretty. Not that I won't be looking forward to this game - I will get it. It's Grandia. It's going to rock. But it looks so... different, I think is the word I'm grasping for. Hopefully it won't try to do anything remotely FF-like and stick to solid Grandia stuff, with wonderful places to explore and good, entertaining battles - and yes, some of that classic tongue-in-cheek humour would be nice.

    Here's hoping.
  • Decoded #19 7 years ago

Conversely one reason Grandia never really clicked with me was that it never felt "epic" enough. This one on the other hand does appear - on the surface at least - to be more in the vein of Final Fantasy, which for me is a positive.
  • Kami #20 7 years ago

I guess Decoded, for me, Grandia has always been the "alternative" to Final Fantasy - the other extreme, and damned enjoyable at that as well.

I guess the fact it looks gorgeous is no bad thing - might make it a bigger, more accepted series... but I am fearful of it crossing into Final Fantasy territory.

If I want Final Fantasy, I'll play Final Fantasy... the same goes for this. I want Grandia... and I expect Grandia.
  • Scimarad #21 7 years ago

    Looks great but:

1:Don't mess with the battle system!

2:Let us actually fly the damn plane!

  • bionutz #22 7 years ago

Blerk: The first Grandia has one of the best RPG stories ever! Ever ever! Ever!.
    Should I buy it then?
  • Blerk #23 7 years ago

Of course! But be aware that it looks a little... shall we say... 'rough'. It wasn't excactly cutting-edge at the time, but it most certainly hasn't aged well graphically. That said, it's phenomenal. And worth a few quid on Ebay if you don't like it.
  • Decoded #24 7 years ago

And play it on a PS1 if possible, as it seemed to not like my PS2 much.
  • bionutz #25 7 years ago

on auction in Ebay, i'll get it in 3 days, hopefully.
  • Blerk #26 7 years ago

Nice one! It's fab. Put aside 40-odd hours.

    /faints

  • Blerk #29 7 years ago

ghearoid! Don't see you much round here these days, man!

    How're you doing? :-)
  • fantabulo #30 6 years ago

Is grandia anything like lunar? If so I think I'll get it.
  • Blerk #31 6 years ago

Blimey... I'd forgotten just how pretty these shots are. If only they'd confirm it for Europe I'd be a very, very happy man. For a change.
  • tengu #32 6 years ago

Do Squenix even release games in Europe any more?
  • Blerk #33 6 years ago

Yes, but only the shit ones that nobody actually wants.
