Easily No. 1 of my most wanted list. The Gothic games are light years ahead of nearly every other RPG out there, especally when it comes to NPC behaviour and world-simulation. But I am repeating myself. :)

I'm more inclined to go with UncleLou's take on matters, personally, and I haven't even played the games.

I don't know about this one... it looks a bit dated. Shame... :/

Whoah, wait a sec - how can you say these shots look dated?
  • bionutz #5 7 years ago

really? I'm looking for a good rpg lately. Was the second or the first the best so far in the series.

    WTF? :D
RPG forums are full of discussions whether the Morrowind sequel or Gothic has the nicer engine. It looks friggin' ace. Just wait till you see a few more shots. And I say this without even having switched on fanboy-mode. ;)

bionutz, both Gothic games are quite similar, quality-wise. I thought the first one was even a tad better (a bit more focussed), but the second is bigger and looks a lot better. Can't go wrong with either, imo. :)

Aye I kind of preferred the story of the first one and there is a lot less plodding around but I kind of enjoyed the plodding in the second one at the same time. I died a lot more in the first one though, it's learning curve is very steep and it's combat engine is entirely unforgiving (and dare I say a bit poo)

Sorry, I thought it was pre-rendered. WOW!

Hehe, lol, I guess you just proved marilena's point (made in the forum) that it looks like a bad CGI film. ;)

At the risk of getting lynched by the fanboys - I wish they would do an Xbox version of this. I loved Gothic, but I just can't justify paying for a PC that can run these games anymore.
  • UncleLou #11 7 years ago

I seriously hope they don't, sorry. Unless it would mean no compromises for the PC version whatsoever, be it in content or technology. Which I'd doubt.

I've seen too many games (and even devlopers) getting ruined (not financially) by jumping on the console bandwagon.

    Morrowind wasn't.
  • UncleLou #13 7 years ago

    No, Morrowind wasn't.
  • MikeD #14 7 years ago

I agree with you, though. :-)

It looks pretty nice, but there's some very odd lighting... problems with their global illumination? Most of the shadows are far far too dark if they're meant to be outside!

Having seen high res screenshots of this game a few months back, the textures looked far too sharp, so much so that it just ruined the graphics completely. Looking at these screens, it doesn't seem like they fixed it yet.
At the same time, maybe the issue is that it doesn't look as great in the screens and works better in motion.
Though i do hope they soften up some of the textures, the ground especially was far too sharp.
